Can I do it myself?

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.

New build mastic in Cartland, done properly

In a new home, every joint should have a clean, even bead. When the finish is smeared, patchy or already cracking, it’s worth putting right early, before water reaches anything behind it. We work on show homes, bathrooms & en suites and kitchens, and common reasons people get in touch are cracked caulk along new skirting and shower seals failing in the first year or two.

Work in a place like Cartland is planned ahead, journey included. Inside work goes ahead in any weather; outside mastic needs a dry day.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Cartland: your questions answered

Is Cartland within the area you cover?

Yes, Cartland is covered. We work across all of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Lanark station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we will give you a clear quote.

How long does the job take?

A typical job takes a few hours for most snagging lists, longer for a run of plots, including preparation and clearing up. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.

Do I need to be at home?

Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. Indoors, that normally means someone at home.

Do you take on second-fix sealing for builders?

Yes. We take on second-fix sealant work across new plots. We clean and prime joints properly to keep callbacks down.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Our base is Crawley. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.

Do you do commercial work?

Yes. Larger jobs can be planned room by room or area by area.

My new home is still under warranty. Should I contact you?

Report it to the builder first while you’re covered. Once that’s done, or if they won’t put it right, we’ll cut it out and reseal it.

When something else is needed

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Movement caused by a poorly fitted tray or bath
  • Cracking that points to a structural problem
  • Leaking fittings rather than failed sealant

If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Surfaces we seal

  • Kitchens
  • Plot handovers
  • Windows & doors
  • Show homes
  • Bathrooms & en suites
  • Skirting & floors

What happens on the day

Most of a good job is in the preparation, and we do not rush it. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours in a single home. Outside jobs in Cartland need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors is not affected.

  1. We look at why each joint failed, including any movement.
  2. We remove the failed sealant and clean the joints.
  3. Joints are dried and primed where the product calls for it.
  4. Baths are filled with water, then the new sealant is applied.
  5. We check every joint and leave you with the cure times.

Aftercare tips

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Keep water off fresh sealant until it has cured
  • Resist patching a failed seal with a tube from the DIY shop
  • Record problems with dated photos
  • Look at the sealant regularly in the first couple of years

Leave the sealant for the cure time we give you before showering or bathing. Most silicones need around a day to cure enough for use.

Early snagging is easier snagging. Small faults turn into leaks if left.

What affects the quote in Cartland

Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • The number of rooms or windows
  • The type of sealant required
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • Whether the work is at height

A few things move the cost up or down: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

What we need to know

To make quoting easier, let us know:

  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Whether it has been sealed before

It all starts with a short chat. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job. When it suits you, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Why it’s worth doing now in Cartland

A quick bead over the top of the old sealant can look fine at first, but it cannot bond to what’s underneath. Taking it all out and starting again is the only way to get a lasting seal. In a place like Cartland, small leaks are easy to put off, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

Leaving a failed joint usually makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you are unsure, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

Why us?

  • A sealant colour to suit the surroundings
  • We never seal over old sealant
  • 20+ years of sealant experience
  • Quality sealants from Arbo and Everbuild
