Gutter sealing in Whitehawk
Water dripping from a gutter joint can stain walls and soak the ground below. Resealing the joint is often all it needs, as long as the gutter is sound. We work on gutter end caps, uPVC fascias and gutter joints, and common reasons people get in touch are old sealant on roofline trims that has split and damp patches inside below a leaking gutter.
Around Whitehawk, garages, outbuildings and extensions all add to the joints on the outside of a home. Leaks generally start at a gutter end, a garage door frame or where an extension meets the house.
The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with our work within the year, let us know and we will sort it.

When to call us in Whitehawk
Debris in the gutter keeps water sitting at the joints. Standing water finds the weakest joint and drips through.
Look out for these signs:
- Stop ends leaking at the end of a run
- Water dripping where gutter sections meet
- Old gutter sealant that has let go
- Garage door frames letting rain in
Rented homes near Brighton station change hands often, and a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking.
What your quote should include
- What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
- What the cure time is
- Is the old sealant removed completely?

How we quote for gutter sealing
There’s no set price list, because no two jobs are the same. The quote depends on:
- Any mould that needs treating
- The type of sealant required
- How easy the joints are to reach
- When we can work, for business premises
Doing several joints on one visit usually makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We’ll give you a clear price for the lot.
What we need to know
There’s no need for technical detail. Just tell us:
- How we’d reach the joints
- The problem you’ve noticed
- If someone has resealed it before
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job. When it suits you, phone 0345 464 0079 or email us.
Whitehawk buildings and the weather
Whitehawk is close to the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.
For an older house near a landmark such as St Cuthman's, old and new materials meet at the roofline and walls, which is where sealant earns its keep. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as City Academy Whitehawk, larger buildings have long runs of movement joint that eventually need resealing.

Common questions in Whitehawk
Does the coastal weather in Whitehawk affect outside sealant?
Near the sea, outside joints face more wind, rain and salt than they would inland, so the choice of sealant and the preparation matter even more. It’s worth checking the walls that face the sea first.

Is it worth trying it myself?
For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.
What we do, step by step
The work is kept neat and contained to the joints we are treating, so you can carry on as normal. The job usually takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run. A visit to Whitehawk is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. If the work is outside, the weather plays a part, as sealant needs a dry surface.
- First, we find the drip and check the gutter is not cracked or sagging.
- The joint or trim is cleaned out and old sealant removed.
- We make sure the joint is dry before sealing.
- We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters and outdoor use.
- The run is checked and any debris near the joints is cleared.
Getting ready for the visit
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
- Clear the area around the work

Can I do it myself?
Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
How to look after the new joints
Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:
- Rest ladders on the wall, not the gutter
- Keep downpipes clear
- Sort out a dripping joint early
- Check fascia and soffit joints for gaps
While checking gutters, glance at the fascia joints too. A small split is quicker to put right.
If an end cap is dripping, deal with it before winter. A winter of drips can lead to damp patches.
