Gutter sealing in Uphall

Gutter sealing in Uphall

Garage door frames let rain in when the sealant around them fails. We cut out the old sealant and reseal the frame with an exterior sealant. We work on uPVC fascias, roofline trims and gutter end caps, and the jobs we see most are wet patches on the wall under a gutter joint and quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last.

External sealant needs dry surfaces, so outdoor work around Uphall is planned around the weather. Let us know about access to every wall and roofline.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

The process

All our tools and materials come with us in the van. After a quick look at the joints together, we protect the area and start. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. Outdoor work around Uphall depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. We look at the gutters, fascias and trims and agree the joints to seal.
  2. Each joint is cleaned and any old sealant removed.
  3. We make sure everything is dry.
  4. We apply exterior or gutter sealant and finish it neatly.
  5. The joints are checked once sealed.

How to prepare

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Mention any parking rules near the property

Advice

Quotes for gutter sealing in Uphall

There’s no set price list, because jobs vary so much. What we look at:

  • Access and height
  • When we can work, for business premises
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved

Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

Asking for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • If someone has resealed it before
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • Where the property is

For gutter sealing in Uphall, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk. Tell us what the problem is and where, and you’ll get a clear quote before we start.

Aftercare tips

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Keep an eye out for wet patches below a joint
  • Clear leaves and moss from the gutters
  • Get leaks sealed before the wet months
  • Get a dropping gutter looked at quickly

A sagging gutter needs its brackets checked. If it drops, the joints will open.

Early sealing limits how much water hits the wall. If we find a bigger problem, we will tell you.

When it is not the sealant

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what sealant cannot fix:

  • Leaks from the roof rather than a joint
  • Fascias that need replacing
  • Downpipes that are blocked or broken

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

What we seal

  • Soffit joints
  • uPVC fascias
  • Garage door frames
  • Roofline trims
  • Gutter joints
  • Gutter end caps

Surface by surface

Gutter end caps

Drips from a stop end run down the brickwork. It’s a quick reseal.

Roofline trims

Roofline trims rely on sealant at their joints. Split sealant lets water in.

Common problems we fix in Uphall

Overflowing gutters can look like leaking joints. If the downpipe is blocked, water has nowhere to go, which is why we look before we seal.

If you can see any of these, it’s time to have the joints looked at:

  • Internal damp traced to a gutter joint
  • Water dripping where gutter sections meet
  • Old sealant on roofline trims that has split
  • Old gutter sealant that has let go

For landlords with property near Uphall station, a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking.

Questions to ask before you book

  • How the colour is chosen
  • How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
  • Whether the sealant suits the joint
  • How long to leave it before use

Common questions in Uphall

I let a flat near Uphall station. Can you help?

Yes, we work for letting agents and landlords. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Is Uphall within the area you cover?

Yes, Uphall is covered. We work across all of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Can I do it myself?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

How long before the joint can be used?

Most sealants are touch-dry well before they’re fully cured. We’ll tell you how long to leave the joint before we leave.

Will you leave a mess?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

Is it OK to seal over old sealant?

No. Fresh sealant does not stick to old sealant, and anything trapped underneath, including mould and water, stays there. We remove it all first.

Do you replace gutters or fascias?

That’s not something we do. Our work is sealing joints; replacing gutters and fascias needs a gutter or roofline installer.

What gutter sealing looks like in Uphall

Harled (roughcast) walls are common in Scotland, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex. Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.

For an older house near a landmark such as Uphall Church And Burial-ground, the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move. If you look after a building such as Broxburn Academy, movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s.

Why deal with it now?

Sealant will not clear a blocked downpipe. We check the cause first and point you to the right trade if needed. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

The cost depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. We give a clear quote before work begins, so you know where you stand.
