Gutter sealing near Palnure

Gutter sealing for homes and businesses in Palnure

Garage door frames let rain in when the sealant around them fails. We cut out the old sealant and reseal the frame with an exterior sealant. Typical jobs include rain getting in around a garage door and internal damp traced to a gutter joint, on gutter end caps, uPVC fascias and roofline trims.

Across smaller places in Scotland, stone and harled cottages, farm buildings and newer houses often stand exposed to wind and rain. Gutter joints and wall joints take a battering, so they need a sealant that moves with the building.

Big or small, you get the same 12-month guarantee.

What the job involves on each surface

Gutter joints

Joints between gutter lengths are the most common leak point. We clean, dry and reseal them.

Roofline trims

Sealing roofline trims is joint work only. Roofing problems need a roofer.

When something else is needed

Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t solve:

  • Downpipes that are blocked or broken
  • Brackets that have snapped or loosened
  • Roof leaks, slipped tiles or failed flashing (a roofer’s job)

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.

What we seal

  • Soffit joints
  • uPVC fascias
  • Gutter end caps
  • Roofline trims
  • Garage door frames
  • Gutter joints

Keeping the joints in good condition

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Glance at the soffit joints now and then
  • Check the gutters during heavy rain
  • Keep an eye out for wet patches below a joint
  • Don’t leave a sagging gutter

Leave the new sealant to cure as we advise before poking or cleaning near it.

A drip from a gutter joint won’t stop on its own. Water keeps hitting the same part of the wall and that can cause damp inside.

What happens on the day

We work through the job in order: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. Typically it takes an hour or two for a few joints, longer for a full run and we leave things clean and tidy. For a place like Palnure, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We start by tracing the leak and checking the gutter itself is sound.
  2. Old sealant and dirt are removed from the joint.
  3. The joint is dried, because sealant won’t bond to a wet surface.
  4. We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters and outdoor use.
  5. We look along the gutter and clear debris around the joints.

Before we arrive

  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Tell us about any water getting in

Advice

Should I try it myself first?

Some jobs are best left to a professional: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Landlord and commercial work in Palnure

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance.

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. We can quote for more than one property at once.

Gutter sealing in Palnure: local notes

Palnure is within about 3 miles of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Plenty of Scottish homes have harled walls, and where harling meets frames, pipes and other materials, the joint needs a flexible sealant that grips a rough surface.

Whether the job is in Palnure itself or nearby, the right material for each joint matters as much as a neat finish.

Palnure is about 25 miles east of Stranraer, in Dumfries and Galloway. When to call us in Palnure

Debris in the gutter keeps water sitting at the joints. Water that cannot drain works its way through a weak joint and drips through.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Trim joints where the sealant has failed
  • Quick sealant fixes on gutters that didn’t last
  • Water running down the wall below the gutter
  • Stop ends leaking at the end of a run

Around Palnure, as everywhere, gutter sealing is only as good as the preparation behind it.

Palnure questions

Do you cover Palnure for gutter sealing?

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Palnure is part of that. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear price.

Is gutter sealing in a coastal place like Palnure any different?

Coastal homes put outside sealant through more weather than inland ones, so preparation and the right sealant matter all the more. Walls facing the sea are generally the first to need attention.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Yes, always, and completely. New sealant won’t bond properly to old, so any old material comes out before anything new goes in.

Do you guarantee gutter sealing?

Our 12-month guarantee applies to all our work.

Are you ARBOMaster approved?

Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.

Can I do it myself?

For a simple, easy-to-reach joint, a careful DIYer can do a reasonable job. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.

Can you fit new guttering?

That’s not something we do. Our work is sealing joints; replacing gutters and fascias needs a gutter or roofline installer.

Do the sealants smell?

It depends on the product. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little, and any smell fades as they cure.
