Gutter, fascia & soffit sealing in Newhaven, Edinburgh
We cover Newhaven for sealing leaking gutter joints, end caps, fascias, soffits and roofline trims. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly.

- End caps that drip every time it rains
- Gaps along fascia and soffit joints
About our gutter sealing in Newhaven
Failed sealant round a garage door frame lets rain blow in. We cut out the old sealant and reseal the frame using a sealant made for outdoor use. Common call-outs are for cracked sealant along roofline trims and old gutter sealant that has let go, across garage door frames, roofline trims and gutter joints.
Scotland’s cities also have plenty of modern blocks with rendered or clad walls and sealed movement joints. Around Newhaven, as anywhere, those joints dry out and crack over time, letting water behind the face of the building.
All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

How the job changes by surface
Gutter joints
When a joint drips, the gutter is often still sound. Sealing the joint often stops it.
Soffit joints
We choose a sealant colour that suits the soffit.
Landlord and commercial work in Newhaven
Housing providers, facilities teams and property managers book us too. We can quote a run of properties together.
In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so the work can be planned room by room around your bookings where we can. We’ve worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.
What affects the quote in Newhaven
We don’t publish a price list. What we look at:
- Any working-time requirements on site
- The product the joint needs
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.
What we need to know
What to tell us when you ask for a quote:
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
- Photos by email, if that’s easy
- Whether it has been sealed before
Quotes start with a quick conversation. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we’ll talk you through what we’d do. Whenever you are ready, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.

What else we do in Newhaven
What we are called out for in Newhaven
Water spilling over a blocked gutter is often mistaken for a leak. If the downpipe is blocked, water has nowhere to go, which is why we look before we seal.
These are the problems we are asked about most:
- Earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off
- Garage door frames letting rain in
- Trim joints where the sealant has failed
- Open joints in fascias and soffits
Homes close to Newhaven Parish Church include some older properties, and the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move.
What to look for in a quote
- Is the old sealant removed completely?
- What the quote includes, VAT included or not
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
- What guarantee comes with the work
Questions from Newhaven
Do you work for landlords with property near Edinburgh Waverley station?
Yes. We work for landlords and letting agents as well as homeowners, and several properties can go on one quote. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.
Does the coastal weather in Newhaven affect outside sealant?
Near the sea, outside joints face more wind, rain and salt than they would inland, so the choice of sealant and the preparation matter even more. It’s worth checking the walls that face the sea first.
Where are you based?
We are a Crawley-based firm. We work across South East England, London and Scotland.
What does gutter sealing cost?
We do not publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: its size, the old material, access and the product needed. You’ll get a clear quote before work begins.
Do you cover Newhaven?
We do. Our applicators work in Newhaven, and the service is the same as everywhere else.
Will it make a mess?
No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.
How long does gutter sealing take?
As a guide, most jobs take a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. Bigger jobs take longer, and we will tell you how long to expect.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned before resealing.
Newhaven buildings and the weather
Newhaven is close to the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. Harled (roughcast) walls are common in Scotland, and where harling meets frames, pipes and other materials, the joint needs a flexible sealant that grips a rough surface.
Schools such as Trinity Academy are buildings too, and its movement joints, gutters and trims need looking after like any other building’s. For landlords with property near Edinburgh Waverley station, a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking.

What we do, step by step
We work through the job in order: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. For most jobs that takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. In a Scottish city, a lot of jobs are in tenement flats, up a common stair from a shared close. For a job in Newhaven, tell us the floor, how the door entry system works and where we can park nearby.
- We start by tracing the leak and checking the gutter itself is sound.
- The joint or trim is cleaned out and old sealant removed.
- The area is dried so the sealant can bond.
- An exterior or gutter sealant is applied to the joint.
- We look along the gutter and clear debris around the joints.
Preparing for the visit
- Clear items away from the joints we are working on
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
Ask for a quote
We quote each job on its own, so the first step is telling us about yours. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details and send pictures if you have them.
Advice
What sealant work can’t fix
In fairness, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:
- Leaks from the roof rather than a joint
- Gutters that have dropped or pulled away
- Rotten or damaged fascia boards
Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.
What we seal
- Gutter joints
- Soffit joints
- Gutter end caps
- Roofline trims
- uPVC fascias
- Garage door frames
How to look after the new joints
Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Glance at the soffit joints now and then
- Rest ladders on the wall, not the gutter
- Have sagging gutters refixed early
- Clear leaves and moss from the gutters
Make sure downpipes aren’t blocked so the gutter can drain. A blocked pipe backs water up to the joints.
Rain getting in round a garage door frame can damage what’s stored inside. Resealing the frame is a quick job while the frame is sound.
