Logan questions

Can you do gutter sealing in Logan?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Logan is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Is Logan within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Do you take out the old sealant first?

Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint before applying anything new.

Is sealant enough for a gutter that has dropped?

Not for long. The movement opens the joint again, so the fall and brackets need sorting first.

Where are you based?

Our base is in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.

Is it OK to seal over old sealant?

No. We remove every bit of old sealant first, so the new joint bonds to clean surfaces.

Is sealing fascia joints something you do?

Yes. Our work is the joints, and if a board is damaged, we will tell you.

Do you replace gutters or fascias?

No. We seal leaking joints and trims. Replacement needs a gutter installer or roofer.

How we handle gutter sealing in Logan

Many dripping gutters are just a failed joint or end cap. The joint is cleaned, dried and resealed with a sealant made for guttering. If the gutter itself has failed, we say so. We’re often asked to deal with fascia boards with gaps between them and water running down the wall below the gutter, across gutter joints, uPVC fascias and gutter end caps.

Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Logan depends on the weather. Tell us how to reach each wall, gutter and roofline.

Whatever the size of the job, it’s backed by our 12-month guarantee.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions, then guaranteed for a year.

What happens if it’s left?

Water from a leaking joint hits the same spot every time. Left, it can stain walls and lead to damp so early sealing is worthwhile. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are unsure, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

Do you need gutter sealing in Logan?

Debris in the gutter keeps water sitting at the joints. Water that can’t drain works its way through a weak joint and drips through.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Garage door frames letting rain in
  • Trim joints where the sealant has failed
  • Water running down the wall below the gutter
  • Earlier gutter repairs that have peeled off

Managing a site like Robert Burns Academy? Then larger buildings have long runs of movement joint that eventually need resealing.

What your quote should include

  • How long to leave it before use
  • What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
  • How much experience the applicator has
  • Which colour the sealant will be

Aftercare tips

How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Have sagging gutters refixed early
  • Look along the fascias for open joints
  • Sort out a dripping joint early
  • Do not lean ladders against the gutter itself

A sagging gutter needs its brackets checked. Movement will pull the joints open again.

Rain getting in round a garage door frame can damage what’s stored inside. A reseal sorts it.

What affects the cost of gutter sealing

Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:

  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • How much there is to do

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all play a part, and we will explain the quote if you ask.

Asking for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:

  • The address or postcode of the job
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • Whether it has been sealed before

We don’t publish a price list, as no two jobs are quite the same. Instead, we give you a clear price for your job. To arrange one, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

When it is not the sealant

We won’t take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • Leaks from the roof rather than a joint
  • Gutters that have dropped or pulled away
  • Boards that have decayed or split

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before booking.

Surfaces we seal

  • Soffit joints
  • Gutter joints
  • uPVC fascias
  • Gutter end caps
  • Roofline trims

Walls and rooflines in Logan

The west of Scotland is wetter than the east, so there’s plenty of rain for gutter, fascia and roofline joints to keep out. With historic houses such as Dumfries House (about 3.1 miles west) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Logan as well as newer homes. In older buildings, older brick and stone need a sealant that suits them, at the right joint depth.

If you live in an older home near Lugar Parish Church, the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move. Letting a property close to Auchinleck station? Then a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking.

How it works

We work through the job in order: protection first, then preparation, sealing and a tidy-up. Typically it takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.

  1. First we trace the drip and check the gutter isn’t damaged.
  2. We remove the old sealant and clean the joint.
  3. We dry the joint so the new sealant can bond.
  4. We seal the joint with a sealant made for gutters.
  5. The gutter is checked and debris around the joints cleared.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
