About our gutter sealing in Law
Open fascia and soffit joints spoil the roofline and can let weather in. They’re sealed in a matching colour where one is available. Typical jobs include failed sealant on a garage door frame and end caps that drip every time it rains, on soffit joints, roofline trims and gutter end caps.
Across smaller places in Scotland, stone and harled cottages, farm buildings and newer houses often stand exposed to wind and rain. Outside joints on exposed walls work hard, so they need a sealant that moves with the building.
Our work is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

The process
On the day, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. Surfaces next to the work are protected before work begins. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. Outdoor work around Law depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.
- We look at where the water is coming from and check the gutter isn’t broken or sagging.
- Old sealant and dirt are removed from the joint.
- The area is dried so the sealant can bond.
- Gutter or exterior sealant is applied and finished.
- We check the run and clear any debris we find while we are there.
Getting ready for the visit
- Clear items away from the joints we are working on
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

Advice
Common problems we fix in Law
End caps get knocked or pushed by water. Once the seal behind them fails, they drip.
Keep an eye out for any of the following:
- Trim joints where the sealant has failed
- Fascia boards with gaps between them
- Water dripping where gutter sections meet
- Internal damp traced to a gutter joint
Homes close to Overtown Parish Church include some older properties, and the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move.

Different surfaces, different methods
Gutter end caps
A leaking end cap sends water straight down the wall. It’s a quick reseal.
Roofline trims
Trim joints are cut out and resealed suited to the material.
Should I try it myself first?
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
A DIY attempt does not rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again.

What else we do in Law
Why it’s worth doing now in Law
If the problem is a blocked downpipe, sealing won’t help. We check the cause first and point you to the right trade if needed. Around Law, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.
There are no prices on our website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.

Law questions
Will you come out to Law?
Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Can you do gutter sealing in Law?
Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Law is part of that. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.
Can landlords and businesses book you?
Yes. Domestic, commercial and hotel work are all part of what we do, and we are fully insured.
How long should I leave it?
Different products cure at different speeds, so follow the cure time we give you.
Can you match the sealant colour?
Most of the time, yes. We’ll tell you which colours the right product comes in.
Is sealant enough for a gutter that has dropped?
Sealant won’t hold a sagging gutter. The gutter needs refixing by a gutter installer.
Can I add another job to the visit?
Of course. Doing several areas at once is generally more efficient.
Will it make a mess?
No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we tidy up before we go.
What affects the quote in Law
We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:
- How much there is to do
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- Mould in or behind the old joints
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.
What we need to know
Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- Where the property is
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- Photos by email, if that is easy
If you are in Law and need gutter sealing, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk. Tell us what the problem is and where, and you’ll get a clear quote before we start.
Gutter sealing in Law: local notes
Harled (roughcast) walls are common in Scotland, and where harling meets frames, pipes and other materials, the joint needs a flexible sealant that grips a rough surface. Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that.
If you let a flat or house near Carluke station, a dripping gutter joint or loose fascia trim is easy to miss until damp shows inside. Schools such as Coltness High School are buildings too, and movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s.
