Gutter sealing near Kentallen

Leave it or put it right?

You do not need new fascias just because the joints have opened. Sealing the joints tidies them up as long as the boards are in good condition. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.

Gutter sealing in Kentallen, done properly

For gutter sealant to hold, the joint has to be clean and dry. So the old sealant and grime come out first and the joint is dried before the new sealant goes in. We work on roofline trims, gutter joints and uPVC fascias, and people most often call us about trim joints where the sealant has failed and open joints in fascias and soffits.

In and around a place like Kentallen, many buildings face open ground and take the full weather. Gutter joints and wall joints take a battering, so they need a sealant that moves with the building.

You’re covered for a year from the day we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Aftercare tips

Aftercare is simple:

  • Glance at the soffit joints now and then
  • Keep the gutters clear of debris
  • Keep ladders off the guttering
  • Get a dropping gutter looked at quickly

Check the joints after heavy rain. Drips are easiest to spot while it’s raining.

Split sealant on fascias and trims lets water in behind. Resealing early protects the boards and the wall below.

Kentallen buildings and the weather

Kentallen is close to the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That is hard on gutter, fascia and roofline joints, especially on the side facing the sea. Kentallen is in the west of Scotland, which is wetter than the east, so there’s plenty of rain for gutter, fascia and roofline joints to keep out.

For jobs in and around Kentallen, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish. In and around Kentallen, as anywhere, good gutter sealing starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

FAQs for Kentallen

Is gutter sealing in a coastal place like Kentallen any different?

Near the sea, outside joints face more wind, rain and salt than they would inland, so the choice of sealant and the preparation matter even more. It’s worth checking the walls that face the sea first.

Do you cover Kentallen for gutter sealing?

Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Kentallen is part of that. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Do you replace gutters or fascias?

That is not something we do. Our work is sealing joints and replacement is a job for an installer.

What do you need from me for a quote?

A short description and the location. We’ll ask anything else we need to know.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we’re part of it.

How much does gutter sealing cost in Kentallen?

Size, access and the old material all affect the cost. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Always. Sealing over the old bead is the commonest cause of early failure, and it’s something we never do.

Do I need to be at home?

Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.

Honest limits

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Cracked, split or warped gutter sections
  • Fascias that need replacing
  • Roof leaks, slipped tiles or failed flashing (a roofer’s job)

If you’re not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Gutter joints
  • Gutter end caps
  • Garage door frames
  • Soffit joints
  • Roofline trims
  • uPVC fascias

What affects the quote in Kentallen

For a quick quote, just ask. What matters most is:

  • The number and length of the joints
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with

Combining jobs into one visit generally makes better use of the time than several visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. We’ll give you a clear quote for the lot.

What we need to know

Photos help, but a description is a good start. Please mention:

  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • The rough size of the job

Want a quote for gutter sealing? Please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the job. You’ll know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.

Can I do it myself?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, and the work is guaranteed for a year.

What happens on the day

When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. Most jobs then take anything from an hour or two to a few hours. Outside jobs in Kentallen need a dry day, because sealant will not bond to a wet joint, so an outdoor job can move if the forecast changes. Work indoors is not affected.

  1. First, we find the drip and check the gutter is not cracked or sagging.
  2. We clean out the joint and take out the old sealant.
  3. We make sure the joint is dry before sealing.
  4. Gutter or exterior sealant is applied and finished.
  5. The run is checked and any debris near the joints is cleared.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
