How we handle gutter sealing in Jedburgh
Our work covers gutter joints and end caps as well as fascias and soffits plus roofline trims and garage door frames. It’s joint work, not replacing the gutter. We work on soffit joints, gutter joints and garage door frames, and people most often call us about drips from gutter joints and end caps and dripping gutter ends.
Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Jedburgh depends on the weather. Tell us how to reach each wall, gutter and roofline.
The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right with it in that time, tell us and we will put it right.

Can I do it myself?
The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
What sealant work cannot fix
We won’t take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:
- Leaks from the roof rather than a joint
- Rotten or damaged fascia boards
- Brackets that have snapped or loosened
Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.
Surfaces we seal
- Roofline trims

- Garage door frames
- Soffit joints
Different surfaces, different methods
Soffit joints
Soffits sit under the eaves, where joints can open up. They’re sealed to tidy the line.
Gutter joints
When a joint drips, the gutter is often still sound. Resealing is generally enough.
Your questions about gutter sealing in Jedburgh
What guarantee comes with gutter sealing in Jedburgh?
All our work, in Jedburgh and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.
Is Jedburgh within the area you cover?
Yes, Jedburgh is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
How long does the job take?
It depends on the size of the job, but as a guide it takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. We’ll tell you when we quote.
Do you replace gutters or fascias?
That’s not something we do. We seal joints and replacement is a job for an installer.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint before applying anything new.
What sealant do you use?
The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.
Are you insured?
Yes. We are fully insured, and we have been doing sealant work for more than 20 years.
Can sealant stop a sagging gutter leaking?
It will not last. The joint will pull apart, so the fall and brackets need sorting first.
Leave it or put it right?
You don’t need to replace a garage door because rain gets in round the frame. Sealing the frame usually stops it, if the frame itself is sound. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, along with when we can work on site. Ask us for a quote and we’ll go through it with you.

What happens on the day
Every visit runs the same way: we check the joints, protect the area around them, do the work and clear up. Most jobs take anything from an hour or two to a few hours. Outdoor work around Jedburgh depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- We look at the gutters, fascias and trims and agree the joints to seal.
- Each joint is cleaned and any old sealant removed.
- The joints are dried.
- We apply exterior or gutter sealant and finish it neatly.
- The joints are checked once sealed.
Preparing for the visit
- Move anything stored near the joints
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can

Advice
What else we do in Jedburgh
Walls and rooflines in Jedburgh
Plenty of Scottish homes have harled walls, and joints where harling meets other materials need a sealant that can grip and flex. Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.
Homes close to Boston Church and Offices include some older properties, and older walls, gutters and the joints where extensions meet them need a flexible sealant. Managing a site like Jedburgh Grammar School? Then movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s.

Aftercare tips
How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:
- Watch the wall under the gutters for staining
- Rest ladders on the wall, not the gutter
- Watch for drips in a downpour
- Check that water runs out of the downpipes
Make sure downpipes aren’t blocked so the gutter can drain. Blockages push water back along the gutter.
A leaking garage frame lets water reach stored items. A reseal sorts it.
