Gutter sealing in Dorney

It’s easy to live with a dripping gutter joint, but each shower sends water to the same place. Resealing it is a small job if the gutter is otherwise in good order. We work on gutter end caps, gutter joints and soffit joints, and people most often call us about end caps that drip every time it rains and garage door frames letting rain in.

Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Dorney is booked around the forecast. Let us know about access to every wall, plus any garages or outbuildings.

Big or small, it’s backed by our one-year guarantee.

How the visit works

We bring everything the job needs with us, so there’s nothing for you to buy. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. Most jobs take a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. Somewhere like Dorney needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. First we agree which joints need sealing.
  2. Each joint is cleaned and any old sealant removed.
  3. We make sure everything is dry.
  4. We apply exterior or gutter sealant and finish it neatly.
  5. We check our work before we leave.

Advice

Can I do it myself?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Outside joints around Dorney

Rainfall in the South East is lower than in much of the UK, though outdoor sealant still has to go onto a dry joint, so the forecast decides the day. Historic houses like Dorney Court (about 0.5 miles west) are a reminder that the area around Dorney has older buildings as well as new. In older buildings, older walls and rooflines need a sealant that moves with them and suits the material.

Homes close to Church of St James include some older properties, and the joints between older walls, newer extensions and the roofline need a sealant that can move. Rented homes near Burnham station change hands often, and a gutter joint that drips onto the wall can turn into a damp complaint, so it’s worth checking. If you look after a building such as Western House Academy, movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s.

Can you match the sealant colour?

Most of the time, yes. We will explain which colours are available and agree one before we start.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Is sealing fascia joints something you do?

Yes. Open joints along uPVC fascias and soffits can be sealed in a matching colour.

How long will you be here?

That depends on how much there is to do, but as a guide it takes a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. We will give you a better idea when we quote.

Can you reach high gutters?

Single-storey and low-level gutters are straightforward. For higher work, tell us about access and we will confirm what’s needed.

Is there any odour?

What sealant work can’t fix

It helps to know what we cannot do too:

  • Water backing up from a blocked pipe
  • Cracked, split or warped gutter sections
  • Sagging gutters or broken brackets

If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Why act early in Dorney

If the problem is a blocked downpipe, sealing won’t help. We look at what’s really happening and tell you if something else is needed. Around Dorney, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.

The cost reflects the work involved, not a rough estimate. That’s why we ask a few questions first and give you a clear quote before any work starts.

Different surfaces, different methods

uPVC fascias

Open fascia joints look untidy and can let water in. Sealing them closes the gap.

Roofline trims

We reseal trim joints with an exterior sealant suited to the material.

Aftercare tips

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Rest ladders on the wall, not the gutter
  • Get leaks sealed before the wet months
  • Keep downpipes clear
  • Clear leaves and moss from the gutters

Have a look at the gutter during a downpour now and then. Drips are easiest to spot while it’s raining.

Rain getting in round a garage door frame can damage what’s stored inside. Resealing the frame is a quick job.
