What affects the cost of gutter sealing
For a quick quote, just ask. The main things that affect it are:
- The number of rooms or windows
- The number and length of the joints
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
Instead of a standard rate, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You’ll know the price before we begin.
What we need to know
A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you get in contact, it helps to mention:
- Photos by email, if that’s easy
- The problem you’ve noticed
- The address or postcode of the job
- Whether it has been sealed before
It all starts with a short chat. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we will talk you through what we’d do. When it suits you, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
How we handle gutter sealing in Bucklerheads
Many dripping gutters are just a failed joint or end cap. The joint is cleaned, dried and resealed using a gutter sealant. If the gutter itself has failed, we say so. If you are dealing with drips from gutter joints and end caps and internal damp traced to a gutter joint, we can help, on gutter joints, roofline trims and uPVC fascias alike.
Outside joints can only be sealed when they’re dry, so work in Bucklerheads depends on the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Let us know about access to every wall and roofline.

How it works
On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Show us the job and we will take it from there. The work itself takes anything from an hour or two to a few hours. For a place like Bucklerheads, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.
- We look at the gutters, fascias and trims and agree the joints to seal.
- Each joint is cleaned and any old sealant removed.
- The joints are dried.
- We apply exterior or gutter sealant and finish it neatly.
- The joints are checked once sealed.
Preparing for the visit
- Mention any tricky access
- Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

Advice
Leave it or put it right?
If the problem is a blocked downpipe, sealing won’t help. We look at what’s really happening and point you to the right trade if needed. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.

Different surfaces, different methods
uPVC fascias
Open fascia joints look untidy and can let water in. A neat bead closes them up.
Gutter end caps
End caps are resealed where they meet the gutter once clean and dry.
Walls and rooflines in Bucklerheads
Harled (roughcast) walls are common in Scotland, and where harling meets frames, pipes and other materials, the joint needs a flexible sealant that grips a rough surface. Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that.
Schools such as Braeview Academy are buildings too, and movement joints, cladding joints and gutters on larger buildings need the same care as a house’s.

What else we do in Bucklerheads
Looking after it afterwards
After the cure time, these simple habits help:
- Watch for drips in a downpour
- Keep the gutters clear of debris
- Keep downpipes clear
- Look along the fascias for open joints
Keep downpipes clear, so water can get away. A blocked pipe backs water up to the joints.
The sooner a gutter leak is sealed, the less water reaches the wall. We’ll let you know if the gutter needs more than sealant.
Your questions about gutter sealing in Bucklerheads
Is Bucklerheads within the area you cover?
Yes. Bucklerheads is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Do you cover Bucklerheads for gutter sealing?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Bucklerheads is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
Are you insured?
Yes. We’re fully insured, and we can confirm the details when we quote.
Do the sealants smell?
Sometimes, a little. It fades as the sealant cures, and ventilation helps.
Is it OK to seal over old sealant?
No. Fresh sealant does not stick to old sealant, and anything trapped underneath, including mould and water, stays there. We remove it all first.
Where do you work from?
We are a Crawley-based firm, with over 20 years’ experience. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.
Can you work on commercial sites?
Yes. Larger jobs can be planned room by room or area by area to suit the site.
How long does gutter sealing take?
That depends on the amount of work, but most jobs take a few hours, depending on the number of joints and the access. We’ll give you a better idea when we quote.
Signs you need gutter sealing in Bucklerheads
Stop ends take pressure from water running along the gutter. If the seal fails, water escapes at the end.
It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:
- Water running down the wall below the gutter
- Stop ends leaking at the end of a run
- Leaking gutter joints and stop ends
- Failed sealant on a garage door frame
For landlords with property near Balmossie station, leaking gutter joints on a rental are best caught before they stain the walls.
What to look for in a quote
- Whether they’re fully insured
- Whether you can choose the colour
- How long the guarantee is
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
Should I try it myself first?
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.
