Glazing silicone in Wildmoor, done properly

Glass and frames expand and contract differently, and the silicone between them takes the strain. Once it splits or comes away, water finds a way through. We replace it with a glazing silicone that suits the glass and frame. Typical jobs include leaks where conservatory glass meets the frame and new silicone smeared over old sealant, across glass-to-glass joints, rooflights and conservatory frames.

Mastic can only go onto a dry, clean joint, so window work in Wildmoor is booked around the forecast. Tell us about access to every side of the house, including upper-floor windows.

You get a 12-month guarantee, the same in Wildmoor as everywhere else we work.

Can I do it myself?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits help new joints last longer. Our tips:

  • Use a gentle glass cleaner and a soft cloth
  • Open vents or windows to let moisture out
  • Avoid strong solvents on or near the sealant
  • Squeegee the shower screen after each use

Gentle products are best near the sealant. Harsh solvents may damage the bead.

Conservatory leaks rarely stay small. Water travels along the frame and into the wall so it’s best dealt with right away.

What affects the cost of glazing silicone

There’s no set price list. The quote depends on:

  • How many areas need sealing
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • The size of the job
  • Working hours on commercial sites

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

Asking for a quote

Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Please mention:

  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • Any access issues, like height or stairs
  • If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work

To get a quote, call 0345 464 0079 or email us with the location and a short description of the problem. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts.

Surface by surface

Glass-to-glass joints

Where two panes meet, the silicone joint takes all the movement. The bead needs to be tidy and fully bonded.

Rooflights

Rooflights get the full force of the weather. Its sealant ages faster than vertical joints.

Wildmoor questions

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Bramley (Hants) station?

Yes. We work for landlords and letting agents as well as householders. Just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the address and what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.

Do you cover smaller places like Wildmoor?

Yes. Wildmoor is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is the work guaranteed?

You get our one-year guarantee on all our work.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, we can. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.

How long should I leave it?

Most sealants are touch-dry well before they’re fully cured. We will tell you how long to leave the joint.

Do you reseal glass shower screens?

Yes. We remove the old silicone carefully before cleaning and resealing.

Why not top up the existing silicone?

Silicone doesn’t stick to silicone, so a top-up soon lets water through. We cut out the old sealant first.

Is it messy?

Tidy work is part of the job. Nearby surfaces are protected, and we clear up when we’re done.

What happens on the day

Once we’re on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take a few hours for most jobs. Somewhere like Wildmoor needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We trace the leak and confirm it’s a sealant joint.
  2. The failed silicone is cut out without marking the glass or frame.
  3. The joint is cleaned and degreased.
  4. We lay the new bead and tool it smooth.
  5. Each joint is checked and, where possible, water-tested.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us if parking is tricky
  • Clear the area around the work
  • Tell us about any water getting in

How to get a quote

Getting a quote is simple: let us know what needs doing and where. A few pictures by email make the job easier to understand, and we will come back to you with a quote.

Do you need glazing silicone in Wildmoor?

Sealant laid over old sealant doesn’t last. Many failed joints we see have been topped up rather than cut out leaving a path for water.

People normally contact us after spotting something like this:

  • Glass-to-glass joints that have split
  • Stained, discoloured glazing silicone
  • Water escaping where a screen meets the wall
  • Sealant that was laid over old silicone and failed

Schools such as The Loddon School are buildings too, and its window and door frames need their mastic kept sound, just like a home’s.

  • Is VAT in the price?
  • Is the old sealant removed completely?

Frames and glazing around Wildmoor

London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, though outdoor sealant still has to go onto a dry joint, so the forecast decides the day. Historic houses like The Vyne (about 3 miles west) are a reminder that the area around Wildmoor has older buildings as well as new. In older buildings, older frames set in brick or stone need a sealant that suits them, and sometimes that’s traditional sand mastic.

In the older streets around Church of St. Leonard, replacement windows fitted into old openings often leave uneven gaps that need backing and a flexible joint. If you let a flat or house near Bramley (Hants) station, a shower screen or conservatory joint that leaks is easier to reseal while the property is empty.
