Where is Mr Mastic based?
Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover St David's and the rest of Perth and Kinross.
Can I choose the sealant colour?
Yes. Sealants come in white, clear, grey and other colours for many products, and we agree the colour with you before any work starts.
Do I need to be at home?
For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

How we handle glazing silicone in St David's
Across St David's, we reseal glazing joints in homes, offices and hotels. Conservatories, rooflights, glass panels and shower screens are all part of the job. We work on rooflights, glass balustrade bases and glass-to-frame joints, and people most often call us about new silicone smeared over old sealant and glazing silicone that has cracked or come away.
Many older Scottish homes still have timber windows set into stone walls. Those suit a traditional sand mastic or a neutral-cure sealant, not an acetoxy silicone that can attack some stone.
Big or small, it’s backed by our 12-month guarantee in St David's and across Perth and Kinross.

Can I do it myself?
Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
What the job involves on each surface
Rooflights
Rooflight leaks can come from the sealant or the roof. We check which it is.
Glass-to-frame joints
Old sealant is removed carefully from the glass before new glazing silicone goes in.
How the visit works
On the day, we start by going over the job with you, so there are no surprises. Surfaces next to the work are protected before we start. Most jobs take a few hours for most jobs. Around St David's, distance and access matter more than parking. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.
- First, we check where the water gets in.
- The failed silicone is cut out without marking the glass or frame.
- The joint is cleaned and degreased.
- We lay the new bead and tool it smooth.
- Each joint is checked and, where possible, water-tested.
Before we arrive
- Clear the area around the work
- On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before

Advice
What glazing silicone looks like in St David's
Private landlords in Scotland must meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping a home wind and watertight, and failed outside joints work against that. Sash and case windows are common in older Scottish homes, and the joint between the box frame and the stone or render is traditionally pointed with sand mastic.
For jobs in and around St David's, choosing the right material for each joint is as important as a tidy finish. Around St David's, as everywhere, glazing silicone is only as good as the preparation behind it.

- Whether it’s a home or a business
- The rough size of the job

Why act early in St David's
Silicone around glazing needs the right product. General-purpose sealant from a DIY shop may not suit glass or the frame, so we use neutral-cure glazing silicone. When the nearest tradesperson is a drive away, it’s tempting to leave a small leak, but water behind a failed seal does the most damage when nobody’s watching.
The cost reflects the work involved, not guesswork. That is why we ask a few questions first.

Aftercare tips
A little care helps the new joints last. Our advice:
- Squeegee the shower screen after each use
- Check the gutters above the glazing for debris
- Get a new leak looked at quickly
- Keep harsh solvents off the silicone
Keep the new joints dry for as long as we advise so the silicone can set properly. After that, clean glass with a mild cleaner.
Conservatory leaks rarely stay small. Water travels along the frame and into the wall so it’s best dealt with straight away.
