What sealant work can’t fix

New sealant cannot fix everything, and we’d rather say so up front. It won’t solve:

  • A sagging or failing conservatory roof
  • Leaks from the roof covering or flashing (a roofer’s job)
  • Glass that needs replacing

Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Where we work in Kincardine

  • Glass balustrade bases
  • Conservatory frames
  • Glass-to-frame joints
  • Shower screens
  • Glass-to-glass joints
  • Rooflights

Glazing silicone in Kincardine, done properly

A frameless shower screen depends on its silicone. The joint down the wall and the one along the tray are common leak points and both get fresh anti-fungal silicone. If you are dealing with mouldy sealant around glass panels and glass-to-glass joints that have split, we can put it right, on rooflights, glass-to-glass joints and conservatory frames alike.

Across smaller places in Scotland, homes range from stone and harled cottages to newer houses, many standing in the open. Exposed frames and sills take the full force of wind-driven rain, so the mastic there works hard.

Every job comes with a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Clackmannanshire.

What the job involves on each surface

Glass balustrade bases

Balustrade bases are exposed outdoors. A sound sealant joint keeps them tidy and dry.

Glass-to-glass joints

Where two panes meet, the silicone joint takes all the movement. It must be clean, neat and well bonded.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Glazing silicone in Kincardine: local notes

Kincardine is close to the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. Both are hard on glazing joints and frame seals, which can dry out and crack sooner where a building faces the weather. With historic houses such as Culross Palace (about 3.5 miles east) nearby, there’s older building stock in the area around Kincardine as well as newer homes. Where a home is older, older timber frames in brick or stone need a different approach from a modern uPVC window.

If you live in an older home near Church of Scotland, the windows may be timber, sash or later replacements, and each needs the right sealant against the wall.

Kincardine is about 4 miles north of Grangemouth, in Clackmannanshire. What happens if it’s left?

Fixing a leaking screen early protects what’s underneath. A small leak can reach the floor below before you notice. In an older home around Kincardine, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will talk you through it.

Kincardine: your questions answered

Do you cover smaller places like Kincardine?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is glazing silicone in a coastal place like Kincardine any different?

Near the sea, outside joints face more wind, rain and salt than they would inland, so the choice of sealant and the preparation matter even more. Walls facing the sea are normally the first to need attention.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are glad to have it sorted.

How long before the joint can be used?

That depends on the sealant used, so please follow the time we give you when we finish.

Are you an approved applicator?

Yes. We’re an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes, we can. More than one area can go on one quote.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We’re fully insured, and we’ve been doing sealant work for more than 20 years.

Do you reseal glass shower screens?

Yes. We remove the old sealant and reseal the wall and tray joints.

What we’re called out for in Kincardine

Heat and cold make glass and frames move at different rates. In time, the sealant splits or pulls away.

People normally contact us after spotting something like this:

  • Water escaping where a screen meets the wall
  • Water getting into a conservatory at the joints
  • Mouldy sealant around glass panels
  • Sealant that was laid over old silicone and failed

Letting a property close to Alloa station? Then a shower screen or conservatory joint that leaks is easier to reseal while the property is empty.

What your quote should include

  • The length of the guarantee
  • What preparation is included
  • Which colour the sealant will be
  • Which sealant they’ll use, and why

10 questions to ask before booking

How the visit works

There’s no need to move everything out before we come, only the area right around the joints. We protect the rest, and the job takes a few hours for most jobs in most cases. Somewhere like Kincardine may be a longer drive, and the journey is planned ahead. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We look at the glazing and agree which joints need resealing.
  2. Old sealant is removed from the glass and frame.
  3. We clean and prepare the joint.
  4. We apply and tool the new silicone.
  5. We inspect the work and test it where we can.

Before we arrive

  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

Advice

Keeping the joints in good condition

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Run a squeegee over the glass when you’re done
  • Keep harsh solvents off the silicone
  • Clean glass with a mild cleaner and a soft cloth
  • Get a new leak looked at quickly

Use mild cleaners on and around the silicone. Strong solvents can soften or mark it.

Damp patches, drips and condensation along a joint are worth checking. The cause may be sealant or another part and we’ll find out which.
