Glazing silicone for Dunmore homes and businesses

How the job changes by surface

Glass-to-glass joints

Silicone joins glass panels in many frameless designs. We reseal with a suitable glazing silicone.

Shower screens

Silicone holds the water in on frameless screens. We renew it without marking the glass.

How we handle glazing silicone in Dunmore

Sealant on glazing doesn’t last for ever. Weather and movement take their toll, and once it cracks, water follows. Renewing it keeps glazing joints doing their job. Typical jobs include a quick top-up bead that didn’t last and failed sealant around rooflight glass, across glass-to-glass joints, conservatory frames and glass balustrade bases.

In and around a place like Dunmore, homes range from older stone-built cottages to newer houses. Exposed frames and sills take the full force of wind-driven rain, so the mastic there works hard.

All our work comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in Falkirk.

Why deal with it now?

Leaks get worse, not better. Water can damage frames, walls, flooring and furniture, so it pays to deal with it early. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.

What it costs depends on the amount of work, how much old material has to come out and how easy the joints are to reach. You will have a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

What we cannot put right

In fairness, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:

  • Cracked or broken glass
  • Failed flashing around a conservatory
  • Structural problems with a conservatory roof

Not sure which it is? You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Where we work in Dunmore

The process

Most of a good job is in the preparation, and we do not rush it. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. In total, it normally takes a few hours for most jobs. For a place like Dunmore, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We look at the glazing and agree which joints need resealing.
  2. Old sealant is removed from the glass and frame.
  3. The surfaces are cleaned with a suitable solvent.
  4. New glazing silicone goes in and is finished neatly.
  5. We inspect the work and test it where we can.

Getting ready for the visit

  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

Dunmore: your questions answered

Is Dunmore within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Alloa station?

Yes, we work for landlords and agents. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Will you leave a mess?

No. We work neatly, protect the area around the joints and tidy up afterwards.

Can you replace a misted double-glazed unit?

No, our work is the silicone. Glass and sealed units need a glazier.

Where are you based?

Our base is in Crawley, West Sussex, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

Is it possible to redo the silicone on a shower screen?

Yes. We cut out the old silicone and reseal the glass-to-wall and glass-to-tray joints.

What do you put in the joint?

We choose the sealant for the joint, not the other way round. Where it moves, gets wet or faces the weather makes a difference.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.

Looking after it afterwards

How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Do not leave a drip for the next storm
  • Use gentle products around the joints
  • Clear the conservatory gutters regularly
  • Open vents or windows to let moisture out

Look over the glazing joints every year or so. Spotting a crack early means a simpler fix.

A leaking shower screen may not show at first. Water can soak into the floor or reach the room below before you spot it.

Should I try it myself first?

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that is fine. We cut it out and start again.

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas need the right product, the right access and the right method.

Frames and glazing around Dunmore

Dunmore is within about 1 mile of the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. That’s hard on glazing joints and frame seals, especially on the side facing the sea. Under the Repairing Standard, private landlords in Scotland have to keep homes wind and watertight, and sound outside sealant is part of that.

Letting a property close to Alloa station? Then a shower screen or conservatory joint that leaks is easier to reseal while the property is empty. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Alloa Academy, the mastic around its windows and doors needs looking after like any other building’s. In the older streets around Airth Parish Church and Churchyard, frames set in older brick or stone need a sealant that suits the wall as well as the frame.
