Common questions in Home Farm
Do you work for landlords with property near Bracknell station?
Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with the address and a few details, and we will give you a fixed price before we start.
Will you come out to Home Farm?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Where do you work from?
Our base is Crawley. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.
Can I choose the sealant colour?
In most cases you can choose. We will explain which colours are available.
Do I have to be there?
For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.
What guarantee do I get?
You get our 12-month guarantee on all our work.
Which silicone is used for glass joints?
Glass needs a sealant made for glazing. We use neutral-cure glazing silicone with anti-fungal products in bathrooms.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. ARBOMaster is the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants, and we are part of it.
Glazing silicone in Home Farm, done properly
Glazing joints need a sealant made for glass. We use a neutral-cure glazing silicone that’s suited to glass and the frame, finished with a neat, even bead. If you’re dealing with sealant that was laid over old silicone and failed and water getting into a conservatory at the joints, we can put it right.
In a village or hamlet like Home Farm, older cottages and farmhouses often have timber windows set in stone or brick. Not every older frame suits a modern silicone bead, so the sealant has to be chosen to suit the building.
We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re covered after we’ve gone.

How it works
Once we’re on site, we check the joints match what you told us. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes anything from an hour or two to most of a day, depending on the size of the job. In a small place like Home Farm, access is usually the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- We look at the glazing and agree which joints need resealing.
- Old sealant is removed from the glass and frame.
- The surfaces are cleaned with a suitable solvent.
- We apply and tool the new silicone.
- The joints are checked before we leave.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- Mention if the joints have been sealed before
- Clear the area around the work
How to get a quote
The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Tell us where the job is, what’s wrong and how much there is.
Advice
Frames and glazing around Home Farm
Home Farm is part of Bracknell, one of the post-war new towns. Many homes date from the post-war decades, and many will have had their original windows replaced. That mastic ages as well, and sills and frame heads are where leaks start. The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.
Letting a property close to Bracknell station? Then a shower screen or conservatory joint that leaks is easier to reseal while the property is empty. Schools such as Wooden Hill Primary and Nursery School are buildings too, and larger buildings have plenty of frames, and the mastic around each one ages.

Leave it or put it right?
A new conservatory roof is a big job. Where the water is getting in through sealant renewing the joint is the simpler fix. If it’s the roof itself, we’ll tell you. Older cottages and farmhouses around Home Farm can have timber floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.
The cost depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. You will have a clear quote before any work starts.

Should I try it myself first?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
What the job involves on each surface
Glass balustrade bases
Glass balustrades sit in a channel that’s often finished with sealant. When it fails, water can sit in the channel.
Rooflights
A rooflight faces rain and sun from above. The sealant around the glass and frame wears faster than most.
Signs you need glazing silicone in Home Farm
Some conservatory leaks aren’t sealant at all: broken panels, roof problems and blocked gutters can all let water in. That is why we trace the leak first.
It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:
- Failed sealant around rooflight glass
- Silicone pulling away from the glass
- A quick top-up bead that didn’t last
- Mouldy sealant around glass panels
If you live in an older home near St Michael and St Mary Magdalene's Church, frames set in older brick or stone need a sealant that suits the wall as well as the frame.
Before you book anyone
- Which sealant they’ll use, and why
- What happens if they find a problem under the old sealant
- Whether VAT is included
- When the joint can take water or movement
