About our fire rated sealant in South Nitshill
Deciding which gaps need fire stopping isn’t our role; your assessor, designer or building control sets that out. Our part is applying the specified sealant carefully, to the right depth and with the right backing. We work on flats & HMOs, door frames and plasterboard & masonry, and the jobs we see most are open gaps behind door architraves and fire seals that have cracked with movement.
Hotels, serviced apartments and student accommodation in Scotland’s cities need their bathrooms kept in order between guests, so jobs in South Nitshill can be programmed room by room, with out-of-hours working possible to arrange.
Our work is backed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

FAQs for South Nitshill
I let a flat near Nitshill station. Can you help?
Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the property, and we will give you a clear price.
Can you do fire rated sealant in South Nitshill?
Yes, South Nitshill is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
Can you tell me which gaps need fire stopping?
No. That’s for a fire risk assessor, designer or building control. Our job is applying the sealant to their specification.
How long does fire rated sealant take?
Most jobs take anything from a few hours to several days, depending on how many gaps there are, including preparation and clearing up. We will confirm how long when we quote.
What does intumescent mean?
Fire-rated is the broad term for sealants tested for fire stopping. Intumescent ones swell in heat, and they’re one of the options. The specification and the tested detail decide which is used.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status, and we’re fully insured.
Will the old sealant be removed?
Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned before applying anything new.
Can you fill the gap behind a fire door frame?
Yes. Gaps behind architraves are a common job for us. The door and its fittings are a separate job for a door specialist.
Common problems we fix in South Nitshill
Buildings are refitted and reconfigured over the years. A house turned into flats or an HMO, or an office split into smaller units, brings new walls, new service routes and new gaps.
It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:
- Fire stopping disturbed by later work
- Gaps filled with a product that isn’t fire-rated
- Gaps where walls meet ceilings or slabs
- Gaps around pipes and cables through fire-resisting walls
Managing a site like Barrhead High School? Then service openings in fire-resisting walls need checking after any refurbishment.
What your quote should include
- How much experience the applicator has
- How the surfaces are prepared before sealing
- What the cure time is
- The length of the guarantee
What affects the cost of fire rated sealant
There’s no set price list. The quote depends on:
- When we can work, for business premises
- Mould in or behind the old joints
- The type of sealant required
- Access and height
Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: how much there is to do, how we reach it and what it needs, plus any working-time requirements on site. Call for a quick quote and we’ll explain what it covers.
What to tell us for a quote
Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Try to tell us:
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- Roughly how big the job is
For a quick quote, get us on the phone, or email us if that is easier. Tell us about the joints that need doing and we’ll explain what’s involved.
Honest limits
New sealant can’t fix everything, and we will tell you before any work starts. It won’t solve:
- Walls or floors that weren’t built to resist fire
- Problems with the door itself rather than the gap around the frame
- Deciding what fire stopping a building needs
If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.
What we seal
- Service penetrations
- Door frames
- Plasterboard & masonry
- Linear gaps
- Flats & HMOs
- Pipe & cable gaps
Different surfaces, different methods
Masonry and concrete
Brick, block and concrete walls and floors are sealed with products tested in masonry. We clean out dust and debris before sealing so the seal has something sound to bond to.
Door frames
Behind most architraves is a gap between frame and wall. We seal any open gap to the product’s tested details.

Can I do it myself?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
