Ollaberry Fire Rated Sealant
Our applicators work in Ollaberry on intumescent and fire-rated sealant around gaps, frames and service penetrations. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly and every job guaranteed for a year.
- Damaged fire sealant left by other trades
- Gaps where walls meet ceilings or slabs
- Door frames with gaps between frame and wall
How it works
All our tools and materials come with us in the van. After a quick look at the joints together, the area is protected and the work begins. Most jobs take from a few hours to a few days, depending on the number of gaps and the access. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints, and the visit is planned around that.
- Before starting, we go through the specification or action list with you.
- Each gap is measured and its substrate and service noted.
- Unsuitable material such as ordinary foam or silicone is cut out and the faces cleaned.
- We fit backing where needed and apply the fire-rated sealant to depth.
- We hand over a list of locations and products for your records.
Before we arrive
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
- Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height

Advice
Fire rated sealant for homes and businesses in Ollaberry
We don’t assess buildings or decide what fire stopping is needed; that comes from your fire risk assessor, designer or building control. Our part is applying the specified sealant carefully, to the right depth and with the right backing. We work on linear gaps, pipe & cable gaps and service penetrations, and the jobs we see most are standard silicone or caulk in a fire-stopping gap and unsealed gaps where pipes and cables go through a wall.
For holiday lets, guest houses and community buildings in or near Ollaberry, washroom and kitchen sealant and any fire-rated joints need the same attention as anywhere.
You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Honest limits
A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:
- Certifying a building or signing off its fire safety
- Problems with the door itself rather than the gap around the frame
- Fire risk assessments, which need a qualified assessor
If you are not sure, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll give you a straight answer.

DIY versus a professional finish
Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
How to look after the new joints
Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:
- Keep pictures of seals that will be hidden
- Make resealing part of every contractor’s brief
- Ask which product was used before you paint
- Check risers, ceiling voids and cupboards during building checks
Look at the sealed gaps as part of your routine walk-rounds. Look for cracks, gaps or sealant that has been cut or pulled out and have them put right.
A gap left open in a fire-resisting wall or floor lets smoke spread in ways the building wasn’t designed for. Closing it is generally a straightforward job.
What the job involves on each surface
Door frames
Our work is the joint between frame and wall. The door leaf, its seals and closer need a door specialist.
Masonry and concrete
Brick, block and concrete walls and floors are sealed with products tested in masonry. The gap is cleaned of dust first so the seal has something sound to bond to.
Commercial buildings in Ollaberry
For seaside hotels, guest houses and holiday lets around Ollaberry, busy months put washrooms and kitchens under pressure, so it’s worth checking the sealant before the busiest weeks. Work on the islands has to be planned around ferry crossings and the weather, so the more notice, the better.
Community buildings like Ollaberry Church and Churchyard with Monument are part of the picture too: older buildings that have had new heating or wiring often have service gaps worth checking. Around Ollaberry, as everywhere, fire rated sealant is only as good as the preparation behind it.

How we quote for fire rated sealant
The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:
- Whether the work is at height
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- The size of the job
- Mould in or behind the old joints
The cost depends on the amount of work, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before any work starts.
What to tell us for a quote
Photos help, but a description is a good start. Try to tell us:
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
- Whether it’s a home or a business
- How we’d reach the joints
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
We quote each job on its own, so the first step is telling us about yours. Simply send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and describe the job, and pictures are welcome.

Why deal with it now?
Leaving a gap until a refurbishment comes round can mean years with it open. Sealing the gap now is a contained job on its own. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we ask a few questions first.
Why Ollaberry customers choose us
