How long the joints last depends on use and care. Here’s what we suggest:
- File the fire-stopping record where your assessor can find it
- Keep general-purpose foam and caulk away from fire-stopping gaps
- Photograph sealed gaps before they’re covered up
- Allow for resealing whenever new services are run
Avoid covering a sealed gap with anything that isn’t part of the tested detail. Repairs should use a matching fire-rated product. We can tell you which product we used.
Leave a fire-stopping gap open and smoke can move through the building much more easily. Sealing it early is a simple step to take.
