External Mastic in Worlds End

Our applicators work in Worlds End on sealing brickwork movement joints, render, cladding and façade joints. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly.

  • Hard, crazed mastic that has stopped moving
  • Gaps where render, brick and frames meet
  • Rain getting behind render or cladding at a joint

Why deal with it now?

Done well, a resealed joint is a neat, straight line that suits the wall. A hurried job with smeared edges and no backing looks worse and fails sooner so it’s worth doing right. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Worlds End, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

Every job is a little different, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

About our external mastic in Worlds End

On houses, flats and commercial buildings across Worlds End, we reseal joints in brickwork, render, cladding and façade panels. The preparation is the same whatever the wall: clean, sound faces and a controlled depth. We work on brickwork movement joints, copings & trims and façade panels, and the jobs we see most are gaps where render, brick and frames meet and leaking joints around cladding and façade panels.

In a village or hamlet like Worlds End, older cottages and farm buildings often stand in the open, where walls and rooflines take the weather head on. Gutter joints and wall joints there need a sealant that can flex and stay put.

All our work is covered by a 12-month guarantee.

Worlds End: your questions answered

Do you cover Worlds End for external mastic?

Yes, Worlds End is within the area we cover. Our work covers London and the South East. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll send you a clear quote.

Is Worlds End within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Is there any odour?

That depends on the sealant. Some products have a noticeable smell, others very little.

How do I get a quote for external mastic in Worlds End?

We don’t publish prices, because the cost depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. We agree the price before any work begins.

Are you insured?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.

Can a movement joint be filled with mortar?

No. A mortar-filled joint cannot move, so the wall cracks somewhere else instead. Use a flexible sealant with backing rod.

Is it worth trying it myself?

Sometimes. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it does not work out, we can redo it.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes. Tell us about everything you’d like done and we’ll quote it together.

Do you need external mastic in Worlds End?

UV, rain and frost all age exterior sealant. Over the years it hardens, cracks on the surface and loses its give, so the joint eventually tears or comes away from one side.

The most common problems we see are:

  • Hard, crazed mastic that has stopped moving
  • Brick movement joints where the sealant has split
  • Joints pointed up with cement by mistake
  • Panel joints letting water in

In and around Worlds End, as anywhere, good external mastic starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.

The process

Good joint work is mostly preparation, so that is where we spend the time. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours for a handful of joints, longer for a whole elevation. In a small place like Worlds End, access is usually the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First we look over the joints with you, agree which to renew and talk through access.
  2. The old mastic and anything lodged in the joint is removed.
  3. We clean both faces of the joint and prime them where the product calls for it.
  4. Closed-cell backing rod is fitted to set the depth and stop three-sided bonding.
  5. A flexible exterior sealant is applied and tooled in a colour to suit the wall.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any tricky access
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive

Advice

When it isn’t the sealant

New sealant can’t fix everything, and we’ll tell you before any work starts. Sealant will not put right:

  • Walls that need new movement joints cut into them
  • Damp that isn’t coming from the joint
  • Cracked brickwork or render that needs a builder or plasterer

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.

Surfaces we seal

  • Joints between brick and frames
  • Render & cladding joints
  • Concrete & block
  • Façade panels
  • Copings & trims
  • Brickwork movement joints

Keeping the joints in good condition

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. Our advice:

  • Deal with leaking gutters that soak the joints below
  • Point out the joints to other trades
  • Ask before painting over external sealant
  • Have failed joints looked at early

Don’t let soil, plants or ivy build up against the new joints. Damp material against the sealant shortens its life.

If you can see gaps, plants or bare sections in a joint, have it checked. Earlier resealing means a smaller job and a better result.

Outside joints around Worlds End

London and the South East are among the drier parts of the UK, but outside sealant still needs a dry, clean surface, so outdoor work is planned around the forecast.

Letting a property close to Portchester station? Then split movement joints are easy to miss on a rental until damp shows inside.

Render joints

Render has movement joints and stop beads that need sealing. They’re resealed in a sealant that suits the render.

Cladding and façade panels

Panel systems often rely on sealant between and around the panels. We reseal them with a sealant suited to the panel material.

Can I do it myself?

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
