Keeping the joints in good condition

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Keep extractor fans working and serviced
  • Check the joints during routine room inspections
  • Keep strong chemicals and scourers off the joints
  • Get split or lifting joints looked at early

Daily cleaning with harsh chemicals shortens the life of any sealant. Ask cleaners to use mild products and soft cloths on the sealant.

Watch for the warning signs: black spots in the silicone, corners lifting, staining on the ceiling below or a musty smell. When you see them, it’s time to plan a reseal.

About our commercial sealant in Scourie

Office kitchens, staff washrooms and welfare facilities need to be usable every working day. We can plan the work for early mornings or out of hours to keep disruption down. You’re told when each area can be used again. We work on rental portfolios, retail & leisure sites and student & care accommodation, and people most often call us about mouldy washroom sealant that staff and guests notice and repeated reseals that don’t last.

For holiday lets, guest houses and community buildings in or near Scourie, the washrooms and kitchens need the same care as any city building, and fire-rated joints should be kept in good order.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

How the visit works

On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Point us to the joints and we will get on with it. The work itself takes a few hours per room, so whole buildings are phased. For a place like Scourie, longer drives are planned in advance. Tell us about tracks, gates, a ferry crossing or anything unusual about getting there.

  1. We start with a site walk to agree the rooms and the timing.
  2. Each area is protected and the old sealant cut out completely.
  3. We clean the joints, treat any mould and let them dry.
  4. New sealant suited to each area is applied and tooled.
  5. Each room is checked and handed back with its cure time.

Before we arrive

  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Mention any parking rules near the property

Questions from Scourie

Can you do commercial sealant in Scourie?

Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Scourie is part of that. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job.

Will you come out to Scourie?

Yes, Scourie is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Will it make a mess?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

Can you seal over the old sealant?

No, because it fails. We remove every bit of old sealant first, so the new sealant bonds properly.

Do you guarantee commercial jobs?

Yes. We give a 12-month guarantee on every job and are fully insured.

Do the sealants smell?

It depends on the product. Some smell for a while, some hardly at all, and any smell fades as they cure.

How long will you be here?

As a guide, most jobs take anything from a few hours to several days, depending on the number of rooms. Bigger jobs take longer, and we will tell you how long to expect.

Can I do it myself?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

Why act early in Scourie

Refitting a washroom is a big, disruptive project. If the fittings are in good order, new sealant is often all it needs. We will tell you if we find anything that needs another trade. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

What it costs depends on how much there is to do, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. We give a clear quote before we start.

Why us?

  • Fully insured
  • 20+ years of sealant experience
  • Domestic, commercial and hotel work
  • A choice of colours where the product allows

Can I do it myself?

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.

What we cannot put right

Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we will tell you before work begins. Sealant will not put right:

  • A broken extractor fan behind the mould problem
  • Failed tanking or loose tiles behind the sealant
  • Cracked trays or baths rather than failed joints

If in doubt, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.

How we quote for commercial sealant

Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:

  • The type of sealant required
  • Any mould that needs treating
  • How many areas need sealing
  • The old material and how stubborn it is

Combining jobs into one visit is usually more efficient than separate visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. You will get one clear quote for the whole job.

What to tell us for a quote

You do not need to know the technical terms. It helps if you can tell us:

  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Where the job is, and your postcode

Need a quote? Please send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the job. We will explain what we’d do and give you a clear price before work begins.
