About our bathroom resealing in Weavering

Resealing is a small job that makes a big difference. Black, patchy sealant makes clean tiles look tired, and a clean white or clear joint fixes it quickly. It also seals the gaps that let water behind the bath. We’re often asked to deal with smears of silicone across the tiles and a reseal done over the top of the old bead, across kitchen worktops & upstands, baths and wet rooms.

Around Weavering, you’ll mostly find houses and bungalows, from older cottages to newer builds. Sealant and grout wear out here just as they do in a big town.

All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months.

What affects the quote in Weavering

Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:

  • The type of sealant required
  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • How easy the joints are to reach

What you pay reflects the work, not a rough estimate. That is why we ask about the job first and give you a clear quote before we start.

Helping us quote

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • The type of property
  • Roughly how big the job is
  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking

Getting a quote is simple: let us know the job and the location, and roughly how big it is. A few photos by email make the job easier to understand.

Common problems we fix in Weavering

Sealant laid on a damp, dusty or greasy joint never bonds properly. Traces of soap, bath oil and old sealant stop it gripping, and a joint that looked fine soon begins to come away.

Common reasons people contact us include:

  • Leaks into the floor or ceiling below
  • A joint torn by a bath that flexes
  • Water escaping at the shower enclosure
  • Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away

For landlords with property near Bearsted station, mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.

What colours of sealant can you use?

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes, we can. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.

Do you work for hotels and businesses?

Yes. Every job carries our one-year guarantee.

Which products do you use?

Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, chosen to suit the joint. We explain the product when we quote.

What the job involves on each surface

Shower trays & enclosures

There are normally two jobs in a shower: the tray-to-wall joint and the enclosure joints. Both take water every day, so each is cut out and renewed with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Water behind a laminate worktop can make the edge swell. A sound joint along the back edge stops that, as long as the worktop itself is firmly fixed.

DIY versus a professional finish

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

What we can’t put right

We won’t take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall

Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy. Several properties can be quoted together.

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we start by going over the job with you. Surfaces next to the work are protected before we start. The work usually takes a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. A visit to Weavering is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. If the work is outside, the weather plays a part, as sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. The old silicone is cut out completely, along with the film it leaves on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. With the joint dry, and any bath loaded with water, a single bead of anti-fungal silicone is applied.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
