How we handle bathroom resealing in Throcking
Sealant is the soft line between a bath, shower or worktop and the wall. When it splits, shrinks or turns black, water gets behind it and into the wall or floor. Every trace of the old sealant is taken out and replaced with anti-fungal sanitary silicone. We’re often asked to deal with shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop and a messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal, on basins & vanity units, kitchen worktops & upstands and wet rooms.
In a village or hamlet like Throcking, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses alongside a few newer houses. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.
All of our work is guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you are.

Signs you need bathroom resealing in Throcking
Older sealant shrinks and hardens. In kitchens it often shrinks away from the back edge, opening a hairline gap that lets water and crumbs in. Hot pans and harsh cleaners do not help.
Most people get in touch when they notice something like this:
- Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
- A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
- Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
- Shrunken sealant along the back of a worktop

- Is VAT in the price?
- Are they insured?

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing
The price is agreed before any work begins. It’s based on:
- The amount of work
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- When we can work, for business premises
Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, whether mould needs treating, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.
What to tell us for a quote
To help us quote quickly, let us know:
- The rough size of the job
- Where the job is, and your postcode

The process
You do not need to clear the whole room or building before we come, just the space around the work. We protect the rest, and the job takes two to three hours for a typical bath, depending on how much old sealant there is in most cases. For a village or hamlet like Throcking, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.
- We start by protecting the area and stripping out the old bead, including the film left on the tiles.
- We clean and degrease the joint and treat any mould.
- We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
- A single bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied and tooled smooth.
- We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, normally after around 24 hours.
Before we arrive
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
- Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed
- Clear the area around the work

When something else is needed
A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:
- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
- A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
- A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will tell you honestly before booking.
What we seal
- Kitchen worktops & upstands
- Sinks & splashbacks
- Wet rooms
- Baths
- Shower trays & enclosures
- Basins & vanity units
Aftercare tips
Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:
- Move toiletries away from the joint
- Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
- Dry the bead with a towel now and then
- Open a window or run the fan so the room dries
Give the silicone time to cure before it gets wet, following the cure time we give you. After that, a quick wipe after showering helps keep it clean.
A few black dots in the silicone soon become a black line. Once it’s deep in the silicone, cleaning normally will not remove it, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Catching it early keeps it a simple reseal.

What the job involves on each surface
Baths
A bath shifts slightly every time it’s filled, so it’s filled with water before the bead goes on. That way the joint is laid with the bath at its heaviest.
Basins & vanity units
Basin joints are short and close to eye level: so we keep the line tidy and even, in white, clear or a colour to suit.
Can I do it myself?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.
