Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Nutfield

Across Nutfield, the joints we reseal are the ones that fail in any home: bath edges, tray joints, basin backs and kitchen upstands. Each one is stripped, cleaned and dried before new silicone goes in. If you have two layers of silicone, both failing and black spots spreading through the bead, we can put it right, on shower trays & enclosures, kitchen worktops & upstands and basins & vanity units alike.

Somewhere as small as Nutfield, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

A 12-month guarantee comes as standard, so you are covered after we’ve gone.

Looking after it afterwards

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:

  • Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Open a window or run the fan so the room dries
  • Dry worktop joints after washing up

Wipe up standing water along the worktop joint and keep hot pans off the bead. A dry joint lasts longer.

Each shower pushes a little more water through a failed joint. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Resealing early stops it.

Common problems we fix in Nutfield

Mould is the reason many people want their sealant replaced. Bathrooms without good ventilation give mould all the damp it needs, and mould that has grown into the silicone normally won’t clean off.

People generally contact us after spotting something like this:

  • Water escaping at the shower enclosure
  • Gaps between the worktop and the wall
  • Water getting behind the bath panel
  • Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt

Schools such as Nutfield Church CofE Primary School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

What your quote should include

  • What happens if the job turns out different
  • What the cure time is
  • How long the guarantee is
  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it

Our hiring checklist

How we quote for bathroom resealing

We quote each job individually. These are the things that affect it:

  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • When we can work, for business premises

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, as water and mould keep getting in. If you are unsure, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will give you an honest view and a quote.

Helping us quote

When you call or email, it’s useful to know:

  • The rough size of the job
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • The address or postcode of the job

Quotes start with a quick conversation. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job, and we will talk you through what we’d do. Whenever you are ready, call 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Nutfield homes and their sealant

Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

In the older streets around Church of St Peter and St Paul, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. For landlords with property near Nutfield station, fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

What happens if it’s left?

A failed joint gets more costly to put right the longer it’s left. Once water is behind the bath, it can reach floorboards, panels and the ceiling underneath, and that is a far bigger job than a reseal. In a small place like Nutfield, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference.

What we can’t put right

We will not take on work that will not last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:

  • A tray that rocks until it’s re-bedded
  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
  • A tray or bath that is cracked through

If you’re not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking.

The process

Most of a good job is in the preparation, and we do not rush it. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included. In a small place like Nutfield, access is usually the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

Before we arrive

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height
  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before

Related advice

Can I do it myself?

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.
