Questions from North Dell

Can you do bathroom resealing in North Dell?

Yes, North Dell is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and let us know what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.

What guarantee comes with bathroom resealing in North Dell?

Every job comes with our 12-month guarantee, wherever it is. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

What should I tell you?

Just the basics: where it is, what you’ve noticed and how we reach it. After that, simply email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. We are an ARBOMaster approved applicator, the approved applicator scheme for Arbo sealants.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. We’re fully insured, and we can confirm the details when we quote.

Do you work for letting agents?

Yes, often. Several properties can be quoted together, and between tenancies is a good time for the work.

Do I need to be at home?

We need access to the joints, so we’ll agree that with you when we book. For inside work, that normally means someone being in.

Do you reseal kitchen worktops and sinks too?

Yes, often alongside a bathroom. Next to the sink we use a food-safe product where it’s needed.

Bathrooms and kitchens in North Dell

North Dell is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

Around North Dell, as everywhere, bathroom resealing is only as good as the preparation behind it. In the older streets around Church of Scotland, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

Can I do it myself?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

What happens if it’s left?

Bleach and mould sprays may lighten black marks for a while, but mould that has grown into the sealant tends to return. The lasting answer is to remove the bead and start again. In an older home around North Dell, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference.

Why us?

  • Tidy, careful work
  • Colour picked to suit the job
  • Trusted Arbo and Everbuild sealants
  • Any old sealant cut out fully, not covered over

How to look after the new joints

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:

  • Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead
  • Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then

Treat the new bead gently when you clean: a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth is enough. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, because a damaged bead gives mould a foothold.

A split bead lets water through every time the bath or shower is used. Over time that water reaches floors, walls and ceilings. Resealing early stops it.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

There’s no set price list, because jobs vary so much. The quote depends on:

  • The product the joint needs
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • How much there is to do
  • When we can work, for business premises

Combining jobs into one visit normally makes better use of the time than several visits, so it’s worth mentioning everything you’d like done. We will give you a clear price for the lot.

What to tell us for a quote

Before you ask for a quote, have a think about:

  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • How we’d reach the joints

Call for a quick quote, or email us if that’s easier. Describe what needs sealing and we will explain what’s involved before giving you a price.

What the job involves on each surface

Sinks & splashbacks

The edge of an inset sink is a common place for water to get under the worktop. We reseal the visible edge of the sink where it has failed.

Baths

The long joint down the side of a bath is where most leaks start, particularly where there’s a shower over the bath. We finish it with a single, even bead of anti-fungal silicone.

What sealant work cannot fix

We will not take on work that won’t last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:

  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them
  • A leaking waste, trap or valve

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think.

What we seal

  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Baths
  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Wet rooms

What we do, step by step

On the day, we start by going over the job with you. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work begins. Most jobs take half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included. Outside jobs in North Dell need a dry day, because sealant won’t bond to a wet joint, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors isn’t affected.

  1. Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
  2. We cut away the old sealant and clean off what’s left.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
  5. The joint is finished neatly and we explain when it can get wet.

Getting ready for the visit

  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work
