When to call us in Merston

A bath shifts a little every time it’s filled and emptied. An acrylic bath flexes under load, and a tray that is not fully bedded can rock. That movement works at the bead until it splits or peels away.

Common reasons people contact us include:

  • A reseal done over the top of the old bead
  • Damp behind the bath or under the tray
  • Water getting behind the kitchen upstand
  • Water escaping at the shower enclosure

Letting a property close to Chichester station? Then a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for.

What to look for in a quote

  • Is the old sealant removed completely?
  • What product goes in the joint
  • How long the guarantee is
  • What the quote includes, VAT included or not

How we handle bathroom resealing in Merston

Mr Mastic has more than 20 years’ experience of sealant work, and our applicators reseal bathrooms and kitchens across Merston. We’re fully insured ARBOMaster approved applicators, and the work comes with a 12-month guarantee. We work on baths, shower trays & enclosures and basins & vanity units, and common reasons people get in touch are black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off and new sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting.

Being in a small place like Merston makes no difference to the job itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. Once we are there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

For landlords and businesses

Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, you get the same standard of work: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Tell us the address, the job and how access works and we’ll quote.

Looking after it afterwards

Aftercare is simple:

  • Dry the bead with a towel now and then
  • Wait for the cure time we give you
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Keep bottles off the sealant line

Treat the new bead gently when you clean: warm soapy water and a soft cloth do the job. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, and a nicked bead lets mould in sooner.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. Once it’s deep in the silicone, cleaning usually won’t remove it, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.

When it is not the sealant

To be straight with you, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:

  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacement)
  • Water coming from the plumbing rather than the joint

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.

Your questions about bathroom resealing in Merston

Can you do bathroom resealing in Merston?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Merston is part of that. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and let us know what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Will you come out to Merston?

Yes. Merston is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Where do you work from?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. Our applicators cover Merston, along with the rest of our area.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

We’re happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just make sure your landlord agrees.

Can you just seal over the old silicone?

No. New silicone won’t bond to old silicone, so it peels away and hides mould and water. We always take the old sealant out completely.

What information do you need?

Just the basics: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. Then ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

Can you reseal around my kitchen sink and worktop?

Yes. The old sealant is cut out and the joint degreased, because cooking grease stops silicone sticking, then we reseal in a colour to suit.

Is white the only colour available?

We can use white, clear or a colour to suit. On a worktop we colour-match where the joint shows.

Different surfaces, different methods

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Upstands and back edges are cut out, cleaned of grease and resealed, because cooking grease stops sealant bonding. The extra cleaning is what makes the bead last.

Shower trays & enclosures

If a tray moves underfoot, new silicone will not last. We check for movement before we reseal, and tell you if it needs re-bedding first.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Merston

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Giles, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant. If you look after a building such as North Mundham Primary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

Should I try it myself first?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

What we do, step by step

You don’t need to clear the whole room or building, only the area right around the joints. Everything nearby is protected, and the work takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included in most cases. Somewhere as small as Merston, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. First, each joint is checked for movement and signs of water.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us if parking is tricky
  • Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
