FAQs for Hove

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Hove station?

Yes, we work for landlords and letting agents. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before work begins.

Can you do bathroom resealing in Hove?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Hove is part of that. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a few details of the job.

Do you reseal kitchen worktops and sinks too?

Yes. Kitchen joints get extra degreasing before the new bead goes on, then we reseal in a colour to suit.

Will there be a smell?

Some sealants have a smell while they cure, but it fades. Opening a window helps.

My sealant has gone black. Can you sort it?

Yes. Once mould has grown into the silicone, it generally can’t be cleaned out for good, so the bead comes out, the joint is treated and new anti-fungal silicone goes in.

How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?

That depends on the number of joints and the state of the old sealant. Allow a couple of hours for a typical bath or shower.

Is it messy?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we clear up the old sealant and our materials before we leave.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes. Just list everything you need.

How we handle bathroom resealing in Hove

Before a bath is sealed, it’s filled with water. A full bath sits slightly lower than an empty one, so the bead isn’t stretched the first time someone gets in. It’s a small step that rushed reseals tend to skip. If you have black spots spreading through the bead and leaking joints on a shower screen, we can help, on baths, sinks & splashbacks and shower trays & enclosures alike.

Homes around Hove have been extended and refitted over the decades, some more than once. Sealant run over the top of an old bead is a common cause of leaks and mould, so we take every joint back to clean before anything new goes in.

All our work is covered by a one-year guarantee.

Silicone being applied where a shower enclosure meets beige wall tiles

Leave it or put it right?

Fresh sealant smartens a bathroom or kitchen with very little disruption, which matters if you are letting a property or selling it. Lumpy sealant with smears on the tiles has the opposite effect, and it’s harder to put right later. Black mould and gaps in sealant do not fix themselves, and in a busy household in Hove they spread with every shower and every downpour. Replacing the sealant now is the simplest fix.

What it costs depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and access to the work. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts.

Common problems we fix in Hove

Silicone doesn’t last for ever. Every shower, every splash and every wipe with a cleaner slowly wear it down, and how long it lasts comes down to use, cleaning and ventilation.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off
  • Water getting behind the bath panel
  • A messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal
  • Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as St Andrew's CofE (Aided) Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Our hiring checklist

Should I try it myself first?

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Work for landlords, hotels and businesses

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy. We can quote for more than one property at once.

A neglected joint can let water reach the structure, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Resealing at the right time is simple maintenance.

What we do, step by step

Once we’re on site, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. Most jobs then take around two hours for one bath or shower, longer for a whole bathroom. For a job in Hove, we need access to where the work is and somewhere nearby to park. If the job is outside, mention gates, side access and anything above ground floor.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. Joints are degreased and any mould is treated.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. The bead is tooled smooth and you are told the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
  • Let us know about parking restrictions
  • Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

Advice

How to look after the new joints

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Keep bottles off the sealant line
  • Keep the fan on for a while after bathing
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner

Give the silicone time to cure before it gets wet, following the cure time we give you. After that, a quick wipe after showering helps keep it clean.

A failed kitchen joint is easy to miss. Splashes run behind the back edge and soak into the worktop, where it can make the board swell. A reseal in time can save the worktop.

What affects the quote in Hove

You will get a clear quote before any work starts. It takes into account:

  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Whether the work is at height
  • Mould in or behind the old joints
  • Working hours on commercial sites

What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That’s why we ask about the job first.

What to tell us for a quote

Photos by email are helpful but not essential. Please mention:

  • The type of property
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • A few pictures by email, if you can

For a quote, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. We’ll give you a clear quote before any work starts.

Bathroom resealing around Hove

Hove is close to the coast. Near the coast, holiday lets and guest houses can see bathrooms used by one guest after another, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Hove has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room.

In the older streets around Holy Trinity Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. If you let a flat or house near Hove station, mouldy sealant is one of the first things a new tenant notices, so it’s worth renewing between lets.
