Looking after it afterwards

A little care helps the new joints last. We recommend:

  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
  • Keep scourers and sharp tools away from the bead

Wipe up standing water along the worktop joint. A dry joint lasts longer.

Don’t wait for a refit to deal with failed sealant. Like paintwork, sealant needs renewing from time to time, and renewing it as soon as it fails protects everything around it.

Honest limits

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • A leaking waste, trap or valve
  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
  • Failed grout lines across the wall

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Quotes for bathroom resealing in Grayshott

Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:

  • The type of property
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • The address or postcode of the job

Common problems we fix in Grayshott

Older sealant shrinks and hardens. In kitchens it often shrinks away from the back edge, opening a hairline gap that lets water and crumbs in. Hot pans and harsh cleaners do not help.

Keep an eye out for these signs:

  • Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
  • Black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off
  • Cracked, shrunken or lifting silicone
  • Leaks into the floor or ceiling below

If you let a flat or house near Haslemere station, fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether VAT is included
  • Which sealant they’ll use, and why
  • What the cure time is
  • What preparation is included

10 questions to ask before you book

Questions from Grayshott

Will you come out to Grayshott?

Yes. Grayshott is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Is Grayshott in your area for bathroom resealing?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Grayshott is part of that. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

What do you need from me for a quote?

A short description and the location. We’ll ask anything else we need to know.

Can tenants book the work?

We are happy to deal with the tenant, landlord or agent. Just make sure your landlord agrees.

Will you leave a mess?

No. We protect the surfaces around the joints, and we tidy up before we go.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We work for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, businesses and hotels.

What colours of sealant can you use?

White, clear and a range of colours are available. On a worktop we colour-match where the joint shows.

Are you insured?

Yes. Mr Mastic is fully insured, with over 20 years’ experience in sealant work.

For landlords and businesses

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so the work can be planned room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

How it works

Once we are on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes half a day or less for one room, longer when the kitchen is included. A visit to Grayshott is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed in advance. If the work is outside, the weather plays a part, as sealant needs a dry surface.

  1. Protection goes down around the bath, shower or worktop.
  2. Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Baths are filled first, then anti-fungal sanitary silicone is applied in a colour to suit.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

How to prepare

  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Let us know about stairs, lifts or work at height

Advice

Can I do it myself?

If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

Homes close to Church of St Luke include some older properties, and older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.
