Bathroom resealing in Gateside, done properly

Showers work their sealant harder than baths. Trays, enclosures, screen profiles and wet room floors all need a flexible, waterproof seal. Each gets a bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone, tooled smooth so water runs off instead of sitting in a ridge. Typical jobs include failed sealant on the screen profile and two layers of silicone, both failing, on shower trays & enclosures, kitchen worktops & upstands and basins & vanity units.

For a place like Gateside, the job is the same as anywhere: everything old is cut out, the joints are cleaned and dried, and new sealant or grout goes in. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

All our work is covered by a 12-month guarantee, wherever you are in North Ayrshire.

Why it’s worth doing now in Gateside

A quick bead over the top of the old one might look better for a while, but it cannot stick to what’s underneath. Water creeps under it and mould follows, and the next reseal means two layers to cut out. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

No two jobs are quite the same, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all make a difference.

Can I do it myself?

A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We cut it out and start again.

What a professional job adds is preparation and the right product. We take joints back to clean, dry surfaces, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

Surface by surface

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Worktop joints get wet and wiped every day. We seal them in a colour that suits the worktop, so the line doesn’t stand out.

Sinks & splashbacks

Where a splashback meets the worktop, there’s a joint that catches every splash. We renew it in clear, white or a matched colour.

What affects the cost of bathroom resealing

Jobs vary more than people expect. The main factors:

  • The old material and how stubborn it is
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • The product the joint needs
  • The number and length of the joints

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, how we reach it and what it needs, along with when we can work on site. Call for a quick quote and we’ll explain what it covers.

Helping us quote

You do not need to know the technical terms. Just tell us:

  • Pictures of the joints, sent by email
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • The problem you’ve noticed
  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height

Want a quote for bathroom resealing? Please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us about the job. You’ll know what we plan to do, and what it will cost, before any work begins.

What we do, step by step

We bring everything the job needs with us, so you do not need to buy or prepare anything. Once we’ve agreed what’s being done, we protect the area and start. Most jobs take a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. In smaller Scottish places, parking is usually less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work.

  1. We cover the area around the joints we are working on.
  2. Old sealant is sliced away and the residue removed.
  3. Mould is treated, then the joint is left to dry thoroughly.
  4. Any bath is filled with water, then we lay a bead of anti-fungal silicone in white, clear or a matching colour.
  5. We finish the joint, clear up and tell you how long to leave it before it gets wet.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Move anything stored near the joints
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed

Getting a quote

The more we know about the job, the more useful the quote. Let us know the location, the problem and roughly how many joints, and add pictures by email if you can.

Advice

Common problems we fix in Gateside

With age, silicone loses its stretch. Along worktops it tends to pull back from the wall, leaving a thin gap where water and food collect. Hot pans and harsh cleaners don’t help.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Black mould in the silicone that won’t clean off
  • Gaps where the bath or tray has moved
  • Lumpy, uneven sealant from a DIY attempt
  • Leaking joints on a shower screen

If you let a flat or house near Glengarnock station, a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for.

What your quote should include

  • What insurance they hold
  • Whether they seal over old material or remove it
  • Which sealant they’ll use, and why
  • Who turns up on the day

When something else is needed

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • A leaking waste, trap or valve
  • Water getting in through the grout rather than the sealant
  • Loose or hollow tiles, or failed tanking behind them

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think.

Surfaces we seal

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Baths
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Shower trays & enclosures
  • Wet rooms

Bathrooms and kitchens in Gateside

In Scotland, private landlords have to meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Failed sealant around a bath or shower is worth sorting between tenancies. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. Mould is another matter: a bathroom that stays damp still turns sealant and grout black.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Glengarnock station?

Yes, we work for landlords and agents. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before we start.

When can I use the bath or shower again?

Around 24 hours is typical, and we confirm the time for the product used. Using it sooner can damage the bead.

What do you put in the joint?

Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, picked for each joint. We will tell you what we are using and why.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes, and it often makes sense. Doing several areas at once is generally more efficient, so mention them when you ask for a quote.
