Bathroom resealing in Chartridge

Sealant that’s mouldy, cracked or peeling shouldn’t be left until there’s a leak. Just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a photo of the joints, and you will get a clear quote before any work starts. We work on sinks & splashbacks, wet rooms and baths, and common reasons people get in touch are gaps where the bath or tray has moved and gaps between the worktop and the wall.

Around Chartridge, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats. Sealant and grout wear out here just as they do anywhere: everything old comes out before the new sealant or grout goes in.

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, whatever its size.

Should I try it myself first?

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.

Some sealant jobs are within reach of a careful DIYer, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.

How to look after the new joints

Simple care keeps the joints in good condition. We recommend:

  • Stick to a soft cloth and a mild cleaner
  • Check the joints every few months for splits or lifting
  • Dry worktop joints after washing up
  • Move toiletries away from the joint

Treat the new bead gently when you clean: a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth is enough. Scourers and blades can nick the surface, because a damaged bead gives mould a foothold.

Watch for the early signs: a corner lifting, a gap behind the bead, a dark line under the silicone or a damp patch on the ceiling below. Any of these means the joint needs attention.

How the job changes by surface

Shower trays & enclosures

A tray that rocks will split any sealant. We check for movement before we reseal, and tell you if it needs re-bedding first.

Wet rooms

Wet rooms rely on sound joints at floor and wall junctions. They get anti-fungal sanitary silicone, working on the surface joints, not the tanking or drainage.

Common problems we fix in Chartridge

With age, silicone loses its stretch. In kitchens it often shrinks away from the back edge, opening a hairline gap that lets water and crumbs in. Hot pans and harsh cleaners don’t help.

Most people get in touch when they notice something like this:

  • Black spots spreading through the bead
  • Water getting behind the kitchen upstand
  • Sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away
  • Failed sealant on the screen profile

Schools such as Chartridge Combined School are buildings too, and its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

Questions from Chartridge

Will you come out to Chartridge?

Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest places. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Can you help a landlord with a rental near Great Missenden station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. You can call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll give you a fixed price before we start.

How long before the new sealant can get wet?

Around 24 hours is typical, and we confirm the time for the product used. Getting it wet too early can spoil the new joint.

Do you guarantee your resealing?

Yes. We give a 12-month guarantee on every job, and we are fully insured.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. We hold ARBOMaster approved applicator status and we are fully insured too.

Do I have to be there?

We need access to the joints, so we’ll agree that with you when we book. Indoors, that generally means someone at home.

How long does it take to reseal a bath or shower?

It depends on how many joints there are and how much old sealant has to come out. For most single baths or showers, allow a couple of hours.

Where are you based?

We’re a Crawley-based firm, with over 20 years’ experience. Our area covers South East England, London and Scotland.

How it works

We work through the job in order: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes a couple of hours for a single bath or shower. In a small place like Chartridge, access is generally the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We protect the area and cut out all of the old sealant, including the film left on the tiles.
  2. Next, the joint is cleaned and any mould is treated.
  3. We let it dry fully and fill the bath with water before sealing.
  4. New anti-fungal silicone goes on in a colour to suit and is tooled to a clean finish.
  5. We tidy up and give you the cure time, normally around 24 hours.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
  • Mention any parking rules near the property
  • For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in

Advice

What sealant work cannot fix

Before you book, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Damage behind the tiles that needs a tiler
  • Cracks in the tray itself rather than the joint
  • Cracked or missing grout between tiles (that is regrouting)

If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll say what we think before you book.

Surfaces we seal

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Wet rooms
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Baths
  • Shower trays & enclosures

Why deal with it now?

Running new silicone over the old joint can look tidy for a few weeks, but it won’t bond. Water creeps under it and mould follows, and the next reseal means two layers to cut out. In a small place like Chartridge, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: the old material and how easily it comes out, any mould to treat, and whether we need extra access for height. Your quote takes all of that into account.
