Bathroom resealing in Cardross

What we can’t put right

New sealant cannot fix everything, and we’ll tell you before we start. It won’t solve:

  • A leaking waste, trap or valve
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Movement from a bath with loose feet or no proper support

Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Basins & vanity units
  • Wet rooms
  • Kitchen worktops & upstands
  • Baths
  • Sinks & splashbacks
  • Shower trays & enclosures

Bathroom resealing for homes and businesses in Cardross

Showers work their sealant harder than baths. Tray edges, screen profiles and wet room joints all rely on silicone to stay watertight. Each gets a bead of anti-fungal sanitary silicone, tooled smooth so water runs off instead of sitting in a ridge. We work on sinks & splashbacks, kitchen worktops & upstands and baths, and the jobs we see most are water getting behind the bath panel and sealant that has split, shrunk or peeled away.

For a place like Cardross, the job is the same as anywhere: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.

Every job is covered by a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in West Dunbartonshire.

How to look after the new joints

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Wipe the sealant dry after showering
  • Look for lifting corners and small gaps now and then
  • Keep the fan on for a while after bathing
  • Wipe up water along the back of the worktop

Keep water off the new bead until it has cured, which is usually around 24 hours. After that, a quick wipe after showering helps keep it clean.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.

Cardross: your questions answered

Is Cardross in your area for bathroom resealing?

Yes, Cardross is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear price.

I let a flat near Cardross station. Can you help?

Yes. We work for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners, and several properties can go on one quote. You can email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details for a clear quote.

Do the sealants smell?

Possibly a little. It fades as the sealant cures, and ventilation helps.

How long does the new silicone need before I use the shower?

Generally after around 24 hours. We’ll tell you the cure time for the product we used.

Do you have insurance?

Yes. Full insurance covers our work, and we can confirm the details when we quote.

Do you reseal kitchen worktops and sinks too?

Yes, often alongside a bathroom. Next to the sink we use a food-safe product where it’s needed.

Can you quote for more than one area?

Yes. Just list everything you need and we’ll quote it together.

Is it OK to put new sealant on top of the old bead?

No. New silicone will not bond to old silicone, so it peels away and hides mould and water. We always take the old sealant out completely.

What we do, step by step

When we arrive, we look over the joints with you first, so there are no surprises. We protect the surfaces around the joints before any work begins. Most jobs take a couple of hours for one bath or shower, or most of a day for a full bathroom and kitchen. In smaller Scottish places, parking is generally less of an issue than access and distance. Let us know how to find you and how to reach the joints.

  1. We look at every joint first and check for movement or leaks.
  2. Every trace of the old bead is removed, including the thin smear on the tiles.
  3. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  4. When the joint is dry, and a bath has been filled with water, the new silicone goes on.
  5. We tool the bead to a neat finish and give you the cure time, generally around 24 hours.

How to prepare

  • Keep children and pets away from the work area
  • Tell us if parking is tricky
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints

Leave it or put it right?

A failed joint gets more costly to put right the longer it’s left. Water that gets behind a bath soaks into the floor, the panel and sometimes the ceiling below, and that is a far bigger job than a reseal. Out of town in Scotland, exposed walls take a lot of weather, and damp in stone or harled walls takes a long time to dry once water gets behind a joint.

Some things make a job bigger or smaller: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. Your quote takes all of that into account.

Bathroom resealing in Cardross: local notes

Cardross is within about 1 mile of the coast. Coastal homes, holiday lets and guest houses can see heavy bathroom use in busy months, which wears sealant and grout out faster than in a quiet home. Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.

In the older streets around Parish Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

How we quote for bathroom resealing

Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Any mould that needs treating
  • How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
  • The number and length of the joints
  • The product the joint needs

What you pay reflects the work, not guesswork. That is why we ask about the job first and agree the price before starting.

What we need to know

To make quoting easier, please include:

  • Whether it has been sealed before
  • Whether it’s a home or a business
  • Where the property is
  • How we’d reach the joints

Every job is quoted individually. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details, and photos are welcome.

For landlords and businesses

We work for landlords and letting agents as well as householders. Resealing between tenancies is a simple way to keep a property in good order before the next move-in.

Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.

What we are called out for in Cardross

Sealant laid on a damp, dusty or greasy joint never bonds properly. Soap residue, oils and leftover silicone film all get in the way, and a joint that looked fine soon begins to come away.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • New sealant laid over old sealant that is now lifting
  • Black mould in the silicone that will not clean off
  • Splits where the tray meets the wall
  • Failed sealant on the screen profile

For landlords with property near Cardross station, a reseal between tenants is a quick way to make the bathroom and kitchen look cared for.
