What happens if it’s left?

Tired sealant isn’t a reason to replace a bath or shower. Replacing the joint is normally all it takes, as long as the fittings themselves are sound. If something else is wrong, we will tell you. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Appleford-on-Thames, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email for an honest opinion and a quote.

How we handle bathroom resealing in Appleford-on-Thames

Sealant is the soft line between a bath, shower or worktop and the wall. When it splits, shrinks or turns black, water gets behind it. Our team cut the old bead out completely and lay a new one in anti-fungal sanitary silicone. If you have a messy, uneven bead from a previous reseal and a bead that has pulled away from the tiles, we can put it right, whatever the surface.

Being in a small place like Appleford-on-Thames makes no difference to the job itself: it just means planning the journey and access beforehand. Once we’re there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same 12-month guarantee.

Bathroom resealing in Appleford-on-Thames: local notes

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Peter and St Paul, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Didcot Girls' School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. If you let a flat or house near Appleford station, fresh sealant around the bath, shower and sink between tenancies helps a property present well and keeps leaks at bay.

Appleford-on-Thames is about 2 miles north of Didcot, in Oxfordshire. From the centre of Appleford-on-Thames to the outskirts, bathroom resealing is available for homes and businesses alike. Surface by surface

Kitchen worktops & upstands

Worktop joints get wet and wiped every day. The new bead is colour-matched where it shows.

Wet rooms

Not every wet room leak is a sealant problem. We check the joints and say so if the fault looks to be elsewhere.

When something else is needed

Honest advice matters more to us than a booking, so here’s what new sealant will not do:

  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Failed grout lines across the wall

Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you honestly.

The process

Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we do not rush it. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. All told, the work takes a morning or an afternoon for most single baths and showers. Somewhere like Appleford-on-Thames needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.

  1. First the area is protected and every bit of old sealant removed.
  2. The joint is cleaned, degreased and treated for mould.
  3. Once it’s dry, any bath is filled so the bead is laid with it at its heaviest.
  4. We apply anti-fungal sanitary silicone in one even bead and tool it neatly.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can get wet, usually after around 24 hours.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on

Looking after it afterwards

After the cure time, these simple habits help:

  • Clean with a mild bathroom cleaner and a soft cloth
  • Run the extractor fan during and after every shower
  • Let new sealant cure fully before it gets wet
  • Keep bottles off the sealant line

Keep water off the new bead until it has cured, which is generally around 24 hours. Once it’s cured, wiping it down after use keeps it looking new.

Mould that starts as a few spots spreads through the bead. When it has grown right through, it rarely cleans out, and nearby grout often goes the same way. Replacing the sealant early keeps the job small.

DIY versus a professional finish

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. All the old material has to come out first.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Appleford-on-Thames questions

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Appleford-on-Thames is part of that. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and let us know what needs doing, and we will give you a clear price.

Do you cover smaller places like Appleford-on-Thames?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Will there be a smell?

Sometimes, a little. Any smell clears as the sealant cures.

What should I tell you?

The location, the problem and the rough size of the job. If you can, email a few photos.

My sealant has gone black. Can you sort it?

Yes, we can. The old sealant comes out, the mould is treated, and we reseal with anti-fungal sanitary silicone.

Will you leave a mess?

No. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint before applying anything new.

Can I choose the colour of the sealant?

White, clear and a range of colours are available. On a worktop we colour-match where the joint shows.

For landlords and businesses

We also work for businesses, from offices to washrooms and kitchens. On commercial sites, working times can be discussed when we quote.

Failed sealant is one of the commonest items on a check-out report, and it’s easy to sort out between tenants. Several properties can go on one quote.
