Timsgarry Window Mastic
Window mastic across Timsgarry and nearby, with every bit of old sealant taken out first.
- Sealant in the wrong colour for the frame
- Cracked or shrunken mastic around the frame
- Rushed sealant from a window installation
How to look after the new joints
Once the sealant has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Wipe condensation off the frames
- Wash the frames with mild soapy water
- Keep timber frames painted
- Paint up to the joint, not over it
Try not to touch the new joint while it cures, for as long as we advise. Keep jet washers away from the frames.
Signs to watch for: split or missing mastic, gaps, damp patches inside or black mould on the reveal. Any of these is worth a call.

What happens if it’s left?
Choosing the product is half the job. Decorators’ caulk and bathroom silicone are not designed for outside joints that move. A low-modulus exterior sealant keeps its stretch through hot and cold weather. Around Timsgarry, water from a failed joint in an older stone home can soak into timber and plaster.
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, because water and mould keep working on it. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.

Timsgarry: your questions answered
Is window mastic in a coastal place like Timsgarry any different?
Coastal weather is harder on outside sealant: there’s more wind-driven rain and, closer to the shore, salt in the air. The right product, a clean joint and the right depth all help it cope.
Do you cover smaller places like Timsgarry?
Yes, Timsgarry is covered. We work across all of Scotland, islands included, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Do I have to be there?
For indoor joints, yes, someone needs to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.
Can you seal over the old sealant?
No. We remove every bit of old sealant first.
Should I try DIY first?
Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. The usual mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using too much.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.
Will it make a mess?
Tidy work is part of the job. Nearby surfaces are protected.
Can landlords and businesses book you?
Yes. We work for householders, landlords, letting agents, businesses and hotels.
Different surfaces, different methods
Aluminium frames
Coated aluminium needs a compatible sealant and we avoid acetoxy silicones, which can react with some metals. Neutral-cure sealant is the safe choice.
Patio & French doors
Patio and French doors have the longest joints on most houses. The threshold and the bottom corners take the most water, so we pay close attention there.

What sealant work cannot fix
In fairness, some problems need a different trade:
- Draughts through the window seals rather than the frame
- Broken hinges, locks or handles
- Soft or decayed wood in the frame
If in doubt, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What we do, step by step
We work through the job in order: protect, prepare, seal, tidy. Typically it takes a few hours for a handful of frames, longer for a whole house. Outdoor work around Timsgarry depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Indoor work goes ahead whatever the weather.
- Each frame is looked over and we agree which ones need resealing.
- The old mastic is cut out and scraped back to clean surfaces.
- Deep gaps get closed-cell backing rod to set the depth.
- The new sealant goes on in white, brown, anthracite grey, black or clear to suit.
- We tool each bead neatly and check every joint is closed.
How to prepare
- For business premises, tell us about site rules or sign-in
- Clear items away from the joints we’re working on
- Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts

Advice
What affects the cost of window mastic
We quote each job individually. This is what makes a difference:
- How many areas need sealing
- The type of sealant required
- Whether the work is at height
- Mould in or behind the old joints
Rather than a set price list, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. You’ll know the price before we begin.
Asking for a quote
To make quoting easier, let us know:
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- Where the property is
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- The type of property
We do not publish a price list, as no two jobs are quite the same. Instead, your job gets its own clear quote. To get started, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Windows and doors in Timsgarry
Timsgarry is close to the coast, and homes near the sea take more wind-driven rain, with salt in the air closer to the shore. That is hard on the mastic around window and door frames, especially on the side facing the sea. Timsgarry is in the west of Scotland, which is wetter than the east, so there’s plenty of rain for the mastic around window and door frames to keep out.
For an older house near a landmark such as Uig Parish Church, the windows may be timber, sash or later replacements, and each needs the right sealant against the wall. In and around Timsgarry, as anywhere, good window mastic starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint.
