Window mastic near Marehill

Can I do it myself?

If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We cut it out and start again.

Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.

About our window mastic in Marehill

The new joint doesn’t have to be white. We can seal in white, brown, anthracite grey, black or clear, so the bead blends with the window rather than framing it. If you have water coming in at the bottom corners of a door and cracked sealant at the sill ends, we can help, whatever the surface.

Homes in small places like Marehill often stand in the open, with little to shelter their windows from wind and rain. Exposed frames and sills lose their mastic sooner than sheltered ones.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right with it, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.

How to look after the new joints

No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:

  • Look round the frames every year or so
  • Keep jet washers away from the mastic
  • Do not use solvent cleaners on the joint
  • Wipe condensation off the frames

Keep the new mastic undisturbed while it cures, following the cure time we give you. Do not point a pressure washer at the joints.

Look out for the warning signs: split or missing mastic, gaps, damp patches inside or black mould on the reveal. If you notice one, it’s time to get the joint looked at.

Quotes for window mastic in Marehill

Some jobs are bigger than they look, and some smaller. The main factors:

  • The number of rooms or windows
  • Any working-time requirements on site
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • The type of sealant required

Instead of a standard rate, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.

When to call us in Marehill

Sun, frost and rain wear sealant out. Sunlight dries the surface out, until it loses its stretch and starts to crack.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Mastic that has split away from the wall
  • Leaking joints at the ends of sills
  • Draughts coming in around windows and doors
  • Rushed sealant from a window installation

If you let a flat or house near Pulborough station, renewing tired window mastic between tenants heads off draught and damp complaints.

What to look for in a quote

  • How much experience the applicator has
  • Whether they’re fully insured
  • When the joint can take water or movement
  • How long the guarantee is

Window mastic in Marehill: local notes

Historic houses like Old Place Manor (about 1.4 miles west) are a reminder that the area around Marehill has older buildings as well as new. Where a home is older, older frames set in brick or stone need a sealant that suits them, and sometimes that’s traditional sand mastic. The South East is one of the drier parts of the UK, yet outdoor joints still have to be sealed dry, so jobs are booked with the weather in mind.

If you live in an older home near Wiggonholt Church, replacement windows fitted into old openings often leave uneven gaps that need backing and a flexible joint. Schools such as St Mary's Church of England Primary School are buildings too, and its window and door frames need their mastic kept sound, just like a home’s.

What sealant work cannot fix

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Misting between the panes of a double-glazed unit (that needs a new unit)
  • Damp coming through the wall itself rather than the frame joint
  • Faulty window hardware

Not sure which it is? You can ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Timber windows & doors
  • Composite doors
  • uPVC windows
  • Window sills
  • Patio & French doors
  • Aluminium frames

What happens on the day

When we get to you, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. Most jobs then take anything from an hour or two to a full day, depending on how many frames there are. Somewhere as small as Marehill, access is often the only tricky part. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We check each frame and agree which ones need doing.
  2. The old mastic is cut out and the surfaces cleaned back.
  3. Deep gaps are filled with backing rod to set the depth.
  4. New exterior sealant goes on in a matching colour and is tooled smooth.
  5. Finally we tidy up and check each joint.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Mention if the joints have been sealed before
  • Clear the area around the work
