About our window mastic in Dornie
A cold draught around a closed window often comes from the frame edge. A new joint stops the air getting through. If the draught is through the window seals instead, we will tell you. If you’re dealing with cracked internal joints between frame and plaster and a bead that doesn’t match the frame, we can put it right, whatever the surface.
Mastic can only go onto a dry joint, so outside work in Dornie depends on the weather. Let us know about access to every frame, including any upstairs.
Our work is backed for twelve months, in Dornie and everywhere else we cover.

For landlords and businesses
Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, you get the same standard of work: the old material taken out, careful preparation and a 12-month guarantee.
Businesses can book us for washrooms, kitchens, offices and more. For commercial premises, we can talk through working times when we quote.
The process
All our tools and materials come with us in the van, so you don’t need to buy or prepare anything. Once we have agreed what’s being done, the area is protected and the work begins. Most jobs take a morning for a couple of windows and a door. Outdoor work around Dornie depends on the weather, as sealant needs a dry surface, so external jobs may need to move if the day turns wet. Work indoors is not affected.
- We check how each frame can be reached safely.
- All the failed sealant is cut away, along with any loose debris.
- The surfaces are cleaned and left dry, and primed where the sealant calls for it.
- Deep voids are backed, then the sealant is gunned in.
- The joint is shaped to shed water and the area tidied.
Getting ready for the visit

Advice
Aftercare tips
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. A few tips:
- Clear any debris from frame drain holes
- Clean frames with a soft cloth and soapy water
- Don’t aim a pressure washer at the joints
- Keep timber frames painted
Keep the new mastic undisturbed while it cures, for as long as we advise. Do not point a pressure washer at the joints.
On timber windows, water behind the joint can lead to rot. Rotten timber needs a joiner, not a sealant, so early resealing is worth it.
What affects the quote in Dornie
Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:
- How easy the joints are to reach
- The number and length of the joints
- Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
- How many rooms, windows or areas are involved
A failed joint rarely gets cheaper to fix by waiting, as water and mould keep getting in. If you’re not sure whether it needs doing, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk for an honest opinion and a quote.
What we need to know
When you call or email, these details help:
- Photos by email, if that is easy
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- Roughly how big the job is
- Whether it’s a home or a business
Every job is quoted individually, so start by telling us what you need. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details and send photos if you have them.
When it is not the sealant
New sealant cannot fix everything, and we’ll tell you before we start. It won’t solve:
- Misting between the panes of a double-glazed unit (that needs a new unit)
- Damp problems in the wall away from the window
- Soft or decayed wood in the frame
Not sure which it is? You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will tell you honestly.
Surfaces we seal

Your questions about window mastic in Dornie
Is Dornie within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, from towns to the smallest places. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Is Dornie in your area for window mastic?
Yes, Dornie is within the area we cover. We work across all of Scotland. You can send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk and tell us what needs doing, and we will send you a clear quote.
Which products do you use?
The product depends on the job: anti-fungal sanitary silicone in wet areas, and other sealants where joints move or face the weather. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.
Will there be a smell?
Sometimes, a little. It fades as the sealant cures.
Are you an approved applicator?
Yes. Mr Mastic is an ARBOMaster approved applicator and we are fully insured too.
Will new mastic stop draughts?
It will if the frame joint is the problem. We find where the air is coming from before we reseal.
Can I paint over the new sealant?
Not normally, if it’s silicone. Tell us your decorating plans and we’ll pick a sealant to suit.
Do you have insurance?
Yes. Full insurance covers our work.
When to call us in Dornie
Joints that are too thin or too deep fail early. A thin smear across a wide gap has nothing to it, while a joint packed solid can’t stretch. That is what backing rod is for.
Any of these means the joints need attention:
- Black, perished sealant on frames
- Rushed sealant from a window installation
- Sealant in the wrong colour for the frame
- Leaking joints at the ends of sills
In the older streets around St Duthuc's Roman Catholic Chapel, frames set in older brick or stone need a sealant that suits the wall as well as the frame.
Before you book anyone
- Whether the sealant suits the joint
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
- The length of the guarantee
- Is VAT in the price?

Can I do it myself?
Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
A DIY attempt doesn’t rule out a professional job. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
Window mastic in Dornie: local notes
Dornie is close to the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That is hard on the mastic around window and door frames, especially on the side facing the sea. Dornie is in the west of Scotland, which is wetter than the east, so there’s plenty of rain for the mastic around window and door frames to keep out.
Around Dornie, as everywhere, window mastic is only as good as the preparation behind it.
