What happens on the day
On the day, there’s very little for you to do. Point us to the joints and we’ll get on with it. The work itself takes most of a day for a typical house, less for a few frames from start to finish. For a place like Coig Peighinnean, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.
- We start by checking each window and door with you.
- Next the failed sealant is cut away and the joint cleaned.
- We fit backing rod in deep gaps so the sealant is the right depth.
- We apply a weatherproof sealant to match the frame and tool it neatly.
- We clear up and check every joint is fully closed.
How to prepare
- Mention any tricky access
- Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
- Let us know about parking restrictions

Window mastic in Coig Peighinnean
Homes in Coig Peighinnean have every kind of window: from uPVC casements to timber and aluminium, plus patio doors, French doors and sills. Each gets a sealant chosen for the frame and the wall it meets. If you have whistling draughts around closed windows and black, perished sealant on frames, we can put it right, on composite doors, uPVC windows and timber windows & doors alike.
Mastic can only go onto a dry joint, so outside work in Coig Peighinnean depends on the weather, and longer journeys are planned in advance. Tell us about access to all the windows and doors, upstairs included.
A 12-month guarantee comes as standard, so you’re not left on your own once the job is done.

What we cannot put right
It helps to know what we cannot do:
- Damp coming through the wall itself rather than the frame joint
- Draughts through the window seals rather than the frame
- Condensation trapped between the panes
If you are not sure, just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will give you a straight answer.

Windows and doors in Coig Peighinnean
Coig Peighinnean is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind-driven rain is a fact of life and, nearer the shore, so is salt air. That’s hard on the mastic around window and door frames, especially on the side facing the sea. The west of Scotland is wetter than the east, which means the mastic around window and door frames has to cope with a lot of rain.
Schools such as Lionel School are buildings too, and the mastic around its windows and doors needs looking after like any other building’s. Around Coig Peighinnean, as everywhere, window mastic is only as good as the preparation behind it.

How we quote for window mastic
You will get a clear quote before work begins. It’s based on:
- The number of rooms or windows
- Which sealant suits the joint
- The amount of work
- Whether the work is at height
What it costs depends on how much there is to do, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. You will have a clear quote before any work starts.
Asking for a quote
To help us quote quickly, please include:
- Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
- How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
- If someone has resealed it before
- The address or postcode of the job
Quotes start with a quick conversation. Tell us what’s wrong, where it is and how much there is, and we will explain how we’d tackle it. When it suits you, send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk.
Common questions in Coig Peighinnean
Does living near the coast affect window mastic in Coig Peighinnean?
Near the sea, outside joints face more wind, rain and salt than they would inland, so the choice of sealant and the preparation matter even more. Walls facing the sea are usually the first to need attention.
Do you cover Coig Peighinnean for window mastic?
Yes. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and Coig Peighinnean is part of that. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we will send you a clear quote.
Will it make a mess?
Tidy work is part of the job. We protect what’s around the joints.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Tell us what needs doing and where, with pictures by email if possible. If we need more, we will ask.
How long should I leave it?
It depends on the product. We tell you how long to leave it before we go.
Will new mastic stop draughts?
Often, yes. The gap between frame and wall is a common source of draughts, and resealing inside and out closes it.
How do I get a quote for window mastic in Coig Peighinnean?
It depends on the job, so we quote each one individually. To get one, email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a short description of the job.
How long will my window job take?
That depends on the number of frames, how they’re reached and the state of the old mastic. You will know the timing when we quote.
Why deal with it now?
A quick bead over the top of old mastic looks like an easy fix, but it will not grip old, dirty sealant. It peels before long, and water still gets in behind. The old mastic has to come out. Exposed walls in smaller Scottish places take a lot of wind and rain, and once water gets behind a failed joint, damp in stone or harled walls is slow to dry out.
We don’t show prices on the website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

DIY versus a professional finish
If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
How to look after the new joints
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:
- Ventilate rooms so frames do not stay wet inside
- Keep drainage slots and sill grooves clear
- Avoid blasting the frames with a pressure washer
- Walk round the house once a year and look at the joints
Keep the new mastic undisturbed while it cures, following the cure time we give you. Keep jet washers away from the frames.
Leaks usually show up in wet, windy weather, but sealant goes on best when frames and walls are dry. Sorting cracked mastic early means the joint is sound before the bad weather.
