How we handle remedial sealant in Stroud
With more than 20 years’ experience, our applicators have seen most of the ways sealant can fail. We’re fully insured ARBOMaster approved applicators, and remedial work carries our one-year guarantee. Typical jobs include movement joints that have split or pulled away and beads that never stuck properly, on botched or over-sealed joints, mouldy bath & shower sealant and failed movement joints.
Somewhere as small as Stroud, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.
A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

FAQs for Stroud
Do you cover smaller places like Stroud?
Yes. Stroud is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
I let a flat near Petersfield station. Can you help?
Yes. We work for landlords and agents as well as homeowners. You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us with the details for a clear quote.
What information do you need?
Tell us what needs doing and where, with pictures by email if possible. We’ll ask anything else we need to know.
What do you put in the joint?
The product depends on the job: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.
Do you offer different sealant colours?
Yes. Sealants come in white, clear, grey and other colours for many products, and we agree the colour with you before any work starts.
Do I have to be there?
That depends on where the joints are. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in, while outside work can sometimes be arranged differently.
Is it messy?
Not at all. The area is protected while we work and cleaned up afterwards.
What if resealing will not fix my leak?
That is why we look for the cause first. If the fault is elsewhere, you’ll know before any work is done.

How the job changes by surface
Movement & expansion joints
Bonding on three sides is a common reason movement joints tear. Backing rod or bond-breaker tape prevents it, so the sealant grips the two sides only.
Mouldy bath & shower sealant
Mould can sit behind the silicone, not just in it. We treat the exposed joint once the bead is out so the new sealant starts clean.
What affects the cost of remedial sealant
Call for a quick quote. What matters most is:
- The number of rooms or windows
- Which sealant suits the joint
- The old material and how stubborn it is
- The amount of work
What it costs depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before work begins.
Asking for a quote
When you contact us, these details help:
- Where the job is, and your postcode
- The type of property
- Any previous sealing or DIY work
- Roughly how big the job is
It all starts with a short chat. Describe the problem, the location and the size of the job, and we will talk you through what we’d do. When it suits you, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email.
Why it’s worth doing now in Stroud
Spraying mould remover on a sealed-over joint does not reach what’s underneath. The layers have to come out, and the joint treated and dried before resealing. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Stroud, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
We don’t show prices on the website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote and we will talk you through it.

The process
When we arrive, we start by going over the job with you. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work starts. Most jobs take a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied. For a village or hamlet like Stroud, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- We start by checking the joint for movement, leaks and the reason it failed.
- All the old sealant comes out, including any layers underneath.
- Next, any mould is treated and the joint dried.
- We use the right backing and sealant for any joint that moves.
- We tool the joint and tell you about anything else that needs attention.
Preparing for the visit
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

What sealant work can’t fix
In fairness, there are a few things sealant won’t fix:
- Old mastic in a building from before 2000 that should be checked for asbestos before it’s disturbed
- A bath, tray or worktop that moves until it’s properly fixed
- A leaking trap, valve or supply pipe
If in doubt, phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will say what we think before you book.

Signs you need remedial sealant in Stroud
All sealant wears out eventually. Mould grows into the silicone, the surface hardens and the bead shrinks. Then the only fix is removal and a new bead.
Any of these means the joints need attention:
- Black mould underneath the bead
- Leaks that keep coming back after resealing
- Worktop sealant that has shrunk and split
- Wide, uneven beads that look worse than the old ones
For landlords with property near Petersfield station, failed or mouldy sealant is worth putting right between tenancies, before it turns into a leak.
Questions to ask before you book
- What insurance they hold
- What guarantee comes with the work
- How long to leave it before use
- What happens if the job turns out different
Looking after it afterwards
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Keep an eye on the ceiling below the bathroom
- Keep movement joints clear of mortar and paint
- Get the cause of a repeat leak found before resealing
- Air the bathroom so the sealant can dry
If we have found a cause, such as a loose tray or a leaking waste, get it fixed, or the new joint may fail again.
Warning signs: sealant lifting at the ends, a second bead visible on top of the first, black mould under the silicone, or stains below a bathroom. Any of them means it’s time for remedial work.
