Regrouting in Stroud

Regrouting in Stroud, done properly

We work across Stroud, regrouting bathrooms, showers and kitchens. The old grout is raked out, the joints cleaned and new grout laid, finished with new silicone at the edges. If you have floor grout that has worn and darkened and shower grout that has worn away, we can put it right, on shower walls, kitchen splashbacks and bathroom wall tiles alike.

Homes around Stroud are mostly houses and cottages rather than flats, some with bathrooms tucked into older rooms or extensions. The work is the same as anywhere: everything old comes out before the new sealant or grout goes in.

All our work is covered by our one-year guarantee.

Common questions in Stroud

Do you cover Stroud for regrouting?

Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Stroud is part of that. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and let us know what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.

I let a flat near Petersfield station. Can you help?

Yes. We work for landlords and letting agents as well as homeowners, and several properties can be quoted together. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with the address and what needs doing, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Can you regrout just the shower?

We can. We’ll look at the rest of the room too and let you know if more needs doing.

Does someone need to be in?

We need access to the joints, so we’ll agree that with you when we book. Indoors, that normally means someone at home.

What information do you need?

Just the basics: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. Then call 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Do you remove the old sealant?

Yes. We cut out all the old sealant and clean the joint before resealing.

Are you fully insured?

Yes. We are fully insured for every job we do.

How long does the job take?

Most jobs take a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Your quote will say how long we expect yours to take.

The process

Good joint work is mostly preparation, and we do not rush it. Every joint is cleaned and dried before new material goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. Somewhere as small as Stroud, access is often the only tricky part. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.

  1. Every tile area is checked for hollow or loose tiles first.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about earlier repairs to the joints
  • Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
  • Clear items away from the joints we’re working on

For landlords and businesses

Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which matters even more when someone else lives there. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.

For anyone letting property in or around Stroud, several properties can go on one quote. Just tell us the addresses and what each one needs.

Should I try it myself first?

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is matched to the joint and its conditions.

Some jobs are best left to a professional: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.

How to look after the new joints

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Check the corner silicone every few months

Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. Corners flex, so it’s normally the first thing to need attention.

Tiles can come away if failed grout is left. Once that happens, regrouting will not fix it, so it’s worth acting early.

Stroud homes and their sealant

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

Letting a property close to Petersfield station? Then clean grout and fresh sealant between tenancies make a bathroom look cared for again. In the older streets around Stroud Mission Church, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

Why deal with it now?

New grout smeared over the old does not bond well. It sits thinly on top and soon flakes away, taking any repair with it. Removing the old grout to an even depth lets the new grout key in properly. Older cottages and farmhouses around Stroud can have timber floors and frames, where water from a failed joint can cause rot if it’s left.

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, along with when we can work on site. Ask us for a quote and we’ll explain what it covers.

When it is not the sealant

A few problems are outside what sealant work can do:

  • Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • Leaks from pipes, valves or wastes (a plumber’s job)

If you’re not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Do you need regrouting in Stroud?

Some grout fails because it was mixed or laid badly. If it was mixed too wet or not pressed in firmly can wash out within a few years.

Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:

  • Old grout in a dated colour
  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Grout washed out of a shower
  • Cracked grout along the bath or tray

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Langrish Primary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.
