Remedial sealant in Hill Grove, done properly

Two decades of sealant work means we recognise most failures quickly. We’re ARBOMaster approved and fully insured, and every remedial job comes with a 12-month guarantee. We work on leaking tray & enclosure joints, mouldy bath & shower sealant and botched or over-sealed joints, and people most often call us about movement joints that have split or pulled away and beads that never stuck properly.

Somewhere as small as Hill Grove, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

You are covered for a year from the day we finish. If there’s a problem with it, please call 0345 464 0079 or email us.

Looking after it afterwards

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Air the bathroom so the sealant can dry
  • Keep bleach and abrasives off the bead
  • Don’t add new sealant on top of old
  • Report a tray that rocks or a worktop that lifts

If we have found a cause, such as a loose tray or a leaking waste, get it fixed, because the new sealant cannot hold back a problem underneath.

Movement joints that have split let water into the structure, and the longer it’s left, the more the joint edges break down. Resealing while the edges are sound is simpler.

When something else is needed

Some problems need a builder, plumber or other trade rather than us:

  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
  • Cracks in the fitting rather than the joint
  • Movement from fittings that are not supported

If you’re not sure, just phone 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Joints and surfaces we work on

  • Shrunken worktop sealant
  • Leaking tray & enclosure joints
  • Mouldy bath & shower sealant
  • Failed movement joints
  • Botched or over-sealed joints
  • Expansion joints

How it works

We bring everything the job needs with us, so there’s nothing for you to buy. Once we have agreed what’s being done, we protect the area and start. It normally takes a few hours, depending on how many layers have to come out. Somewhere like Hill Grove needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. First we find out how and where the joint has failed.
  2. All the old sealant comes out, including any layers underneath.
  3. The joint is cleaned, treated for mould and left to dry.
  4. Where the joint moves, backing and a flexible sealant suited to the movement go in.
  5. The new joint is tooled neatly and we explain anything else we found.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about any previous sealing or DIY attempts
  • Mention any leaks or damp you’ve noticed

Advice

DIY versus a professional finish

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.

The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Hill Grove

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Barnabas, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them. If you look after a building such as Swanmore Church of England Aided Primary School, washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Hill Grove is about 6 miles east of Hedge End, in Hampshire. What we’re called out for in Hill Grove

One of the commonest remedial jobs is sealant on top of sealant. New silicone cannot stick to the old bead, so the new layer peels, and damp and mould settle between them.

It’s worth asking for a quote if you see:

  • Leaks that keep coming back after resealing
  • Sealant that came away because the surface wasn’t prepared
  • Black mould underneath the bead
  • Torn expansion joints

Letting a property close to Botley station? Then failed or mouldy sealant is worth putting right between tenancies, before it turns into a leak.

Questions to ask before you book

Your questions about remedial sealant in Hill Grove

Is Hill Grove in your area for remedial sealant?

Yes, Hill Grove is within the area we cover. Our work covers London and the South East. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and let us know what needs doing, and we will give you a clear quote.

Will you come out to Hill Grove?

Yes, we do. We work across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

My shower still leaks after a reseal. Can you sort it?

Yes. We’ll take all the sealant out, look for why it failed and reseal it properly.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Tell us what needs doing and where. If we need more, we will ask.

When is the sealant fully cured?

Cure times vary by product and the temperature. We tell you how long to leave it before we go.

Should I try DIY first?

You can, for simple jobs. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. If it does not work out, we can redo it.

Which products do you use?

It depends on the joint: sanitary silicone where it gets wet, and sealants suited to movement or weather elsewhere. Brands we use include Arbo and Everbuild.

How we quote for remedial sealant

Every job gets its own quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • Whether old sealant or filler has to be cut out
  • The number and length of the joints

There are no prices on our website, because each job is priced on what it involves. Call for a quick quote.

What we need to know

What to tell us when you ask for a quote:

  • Access, such as stairs, a lift or height
  • The rough size of the job
  • The address or postcode of the job
  • The problem you’ve noticed

To get a quote, call 0345 464 0079 or email us and tell us where the job is and what the problem looks like. We’ll give you a clear quote before any work starts.

Why it’s worth doing now in Hill Grove

Mould under a bead can’t be reached by cleaning. Removal is the only way to get at it, and the joint treated and dried before resealing. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Hill Grove, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Commercial jobs are quoted on the same basis as homes: the amount of work, the access and the products needed. Ask us for a quote and we’ll explain what it covers.
