How we quote for remedial sealant
Jobs vary more than people expect. What affects the quote:
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- The type of sealant required
- How much there is to do
- Working hours on commercial sites
Instead of a standard rate, we price the job in front of us: how many joints, what’s in them now and how we reach them. The price is agreed before we begin.
What we need to know
A few details help us give you an accurate quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:
- How we’d reach the joints
- Photos by email, if that is easy
- What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
- If someone has resealed it before

Feering: your questions answered
Will you come out to Feering?
Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Is Feering in your area for remedial sealant?
Yes, Feering is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. Just ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear price.
What happens if the problem is the tray or the plumbing?
In that case, we tell you what we have found. A plumber or fitter may be needed.
Does remedial work come with a guarantee?
Yes. You get our 12-month guarantee.
Can failed expansion joints be resealed?
Yes. If a joint has been filled with mortar or rigid filler, we rake it out where possible, and reseal with a flexible product.
Do you work for letting agents?
Yes. We work in homes, commercial premises and hotels.
Do I have to be there?
Access is agreed with you when the job is booked. Indoors, that generally means someone at home.
Is it worth trying it myself?
You can, for simple jobs. The key is preparation: remove all the old material and work on a clean, dry joint. If it does not work out, we can redo it.
What happens on the day
When we arrive, we start by going over the job with you. Surfaces next to the work are protected before any work starts. Most jobs take a few hours for most joints, depending on how much old sealant has to come out. In a small place like Feering, access is normally the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- We protect the surfaces around the joint.
- Every layer of failed sealant is stripped out.
- The joint is degreased and checked for movement and leaks.
- Once dry, a suitable sealant is applied and tooled.
- We give you the cure time and explain what caused the failure.
How to prepare
- Mention any tricky access
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

What we cannot put right
Sealant isn’t the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant won’t put right:
- A tray or bath that’s cracked
- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
- A bath, tray or worktop that moves until it’s properly fixed
If you are not sure, just ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book.
What we seal
- Mouldy bath & shower sealant
- Expansion joints
- Botched or over-sealed joints
- Failed movement joints
- Leaking tray & enclosure joints
- Shrunken worktop sealant
Looking after it afterwards
Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. Here’s what we suggest:
- Air the bathroom so the sealant can dry
- Always have old sealant cut out, not covered
- Keep movement joints clear of mortar and paint
- Clean sealant with mild products only
Don’t let anyone seal over it later. Over-sealing is how many remedial jobs start.
A split movement joint lets rain into walls and floors, and the longer it’s left, the more the joint edges break down. Resealing while the edges are sound is simpler.
Feering homes and their sealant
Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
If you let a flat or house near Kelvedon station, botched sealant from a previous quick fix is easier to strip out between tenants. Homes close to Parish Church of All Saints include some older properties, and bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. Schools such as Feering Church of England Primary School are buildings too, and washroom and kitchen sealant there needs the same care as at home, and schools and businesses are part of our work as well as homes.

Should I try it myself first?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is, then guaranteed for a year.
Not every job suits DIY: work at height, external movement joints, fire-rated sealant and large areas call for the right materials, safe access and experience.
How the job changes by surface
Windows & doors
Wrong-coloured or messy mastic can be replaced for appearance too, in a colour that suits the frame.
Movement & expansion joints
A movement joint must be able to stretch. Failed sealant is cut out, backing rod or tape is fitted and the joint resealed.
Landlords, agents and businesses in Feering
Water getting past a failed joint can damage the building, which is a bigger problem in a rented property. Keeping joints in good order is simple maintenance that we can handle for you.
Whether it’s one flat or a portfolio, you get the same standard of work: old sealant fully removed, joints prepared properly and a 12-month guarantee.
