Remedial Sealant in Datchet
We cover Datchet for removing failed, mouldy or leaking sealant and putting it right. Old sealant removed completely, joints prepared properly.
- Sealant applied over old sealant that has lifted
- Sealant that came away because the surface wasn’t prepared
- Decorators’ caulk around a bath or shower
How we handle remedial sealant in Datchet
A movement joint stops working when its sealant splits or sets hard. We cut out the failed sealant and set the depth with backing, before resealing with a flexible product suited to the movement. We work on failed movement joints, shrunken worktop sealant and mouldy bath & shower sealant, and people most often call us about decorators’ caulk around a bath or shower and sealant applied over old sealant that has lifted.
Smaller places like Datchet still have plenty of bathrooms that work hard every day. Older or newer, every room gets the same approach: old sealant or grout cut out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh finish laid.
The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right with it, call 0345 464 0079 or email us.

What happens if it’s left?
Mould under a bead can’t be reached by cleaning. Removal is the only way to get at it, so the joint can be treated and resealed. In a smaller place like Datchet, wherever a wall is exposed, a failed outside joint is a real source of damp. Inside, a split seal lets water into floors and panels just as it would anywhere.
Instead of a standard rate, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You’ll know the price before we begin.

Looking after it afterwards
After the cure time, these simple habits help:
- Find out why the sealant failed first
- Don’t add new sealant on top of old
- Keep the room well ventilated
- Keep bleach and abrasives off the bead
If the joint ever needs renewing, have it cut out, not sealed over. New silicone doesn’t bond to old.
Mould trapped under over-sealed joints spreads unseen. By the time it shows through, the joint is well past saving.
Should I try it myself first?
Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. New silicone won’t bond to old, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.
The process
Most of a good job is in the preparation, so that’s where we spend the time. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied. Parking around Datchet is normally easier than in a town centre, but mention any lanes, gates or long drives. If the job is outside, tell us about side access and how high the joints are.
- First we find out how and where the joint has failed.
- Every layer of old sealant is cut and cleaned out.
- Next, any mould is treated and the joint dried.
- Moving joints get backing and a flexible sealant to suit.
- Finally we finish the joint and talk you through what we found.
Getting ready for the visit

- Keep pets and children clear of the area while we work

What sealant work can’t fix
New sealant cannot fix everything, and we will tell you before we start. Sealant will not put right:
- A cracked shower tray or bath (that needs repair or replacing)
- Sealant in an older building that needs testing for asbestos first
- A tray or worktop that needs refixing first
Not sure which it is? You can call 0345 464 0079 or email us and we will tell you honestly.
Surfaces we seal
- Botched or over-sealed joints
- Leaking tray & enclosure joints
- Mouldy bath & shower sealant
- Failed movement joints
- Expansion joints
- Shrunken worktop sealant
Remedial sealant around Datchet
Datchet has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. As well as homes, we work in hotel bathrooms, where resealing and regrouting can be done room by room. Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
If you look after a building such as Datchet St Mary's CofE Primary School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Mary, older homes can move a little, which is hard on rigid grout and tired sealant.

Datchet questions
Can you help a landlord with a rental near Datchet station?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for, and several properties can be quoted together. You can ring 0345 464 0079 or email us with the details for a clear quote.
Do you work for hotels and guest houses in Datchet?
Yes. Hotel and guest-house work is part of what we do. Work can be planned room by room, and out-of-hours working can be arranged.
Do you offer different sealant colours?
In most cases you can choose. We will tell you which colours the right product comes in.
Do I have to be there?
If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. Once we’ve agreed the job, you don’t need to watch us work.
Will there be a smell?
There can be a smell while the sealant cures, which fades as it sets. Opening a window helps.
What if resealing won’t fix my leak?
We’ll tell you. A cracked tray, faulty valve or leaking waste needs a different trade, so we won’t pretend it will.
Someone sealed over the old bead. Can you fix it?
Yes. Each layer is cut out and the residue cleaned off, then the joint is resealed once.
Where are you based?
We are based in Crawley, and we work across South East England, London and Scotland.
What we’re called out for in Datchet
Using the wrong product is a common cause: acrylic caulk in a wet area, a general-purpose sealant on a moving joint, or an acetoxy silicone on natural stone or some metals. None of them last.
People usually contact us when they notice one of these:
- Kitchen joints letting water behind the worktop
- Sealant that came away because the surface wasn’t prepared
- Dark patches showing through the sealant
- Floor or wall movement joints that have failed
If you let a flat or house near Datchet station, botched sealant from a previous quick fix is easier to strip out between tenants.
What your quote should include
- Who turns up on the day
- Whether all the old sealant comes out first
- What happens if the job turns out different
- Are they insured?
