Remedial sealant in Catmore, done properly
Remedial work is what we do when sealant has failed or been done badly. Silicone laid over silicone, smears across tiles, the wrong product in a moving joint or mould trapped underneath all have to come out before the joint can be done properly. If you have kitchen joints letting water behind the worktop and mould trapped under a layer of silicone, we can help, whatever the surface.
Being in a small place like Catmore makes no difference to the job itself: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.
The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If something is not right with it in that time, tell us and we’ll put it right.

Leave it or put it right?
Ripping out a bathroom isn’t usually needed. If the bath, tray and tiles are sound, remedial resealing normally puts it right. Where something else has failed, you’ll hear it from us. In a small place like Catmore, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
A few things move the cost up or down: how much old sealant there is and how stubborn it is, any mould to treat, and whether the work is at height. We take all of that into account in your quote.
Why us?
- A choice of colours where the product allows
- Old sealant always removed completely
- A 12-month guarantee on all work
- More than 20 years in sealant work

FAQs for Catmore
What guarantee comes with remedial sealant in Catmore?
All our work, in Catmore and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re fully insured, and an ARBOMaster approved applicator.
Do you cover Catmore for remedial sealant?
Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and Catmore is part of that. You can phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us what needs doing.
How do I get a quote for remedial sealant in Catmore?
The cost depends on the size of the job, access and how much old sealant has to come out. Ask us for a quote.
Can I do it myself?
That depends on the joint. Work at height, movement joints, fire-rated gaps and large areas are best left to a professional.
Can tenants book the work?
Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.
How long does the work take?
Longer than a simple reseal, because every layer has to come out. For most joints, it’s a few hours, and we confirm the time with your quote.
What sealant do you use?
Quality sealants from brands including Arbo and Everbuild, chosen to suit the joint. We explain the product when we quote.
Do you fix expansion and movement joints?
Yes. Where mortar or filler has been used instead of sealant, it’s removed where it can be, then the joint is sealed properly.
What happens on the day
You don’t need to clear the whole room or building, only the area right around the joints. We protect the rest, and the job takes a few hours for a typical bath or shower, longer where several layers have been applied for a typical job. In a small place like Catmore, access is usually the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.
- We start by checking the joint for movement, leaks and the reason it failed.
- All the old sealant comes out, including any layers underneath.
- Next, any mould is treated and the joint dried.
- Moving joints get backing and a flexible sealant to suit.
- The new joint is tooled neatly and we explain anything else we found.
How to prepare
- Mention any tricky access
- Clear the area around the work
- On commercial sites, let us know about site rules

What affects the cost of remedial sealant
The price is agreed before any work begins. It’s based on:
- Whether there’s mould to deal with
- The number and length of the joints
- The number of rooms or windows
- The type of sealant required
The cost depends on the size of the job, how hard the old material is to remove and how easy the joints are to reach. We give a clear quote before we start, so you know where you stand.
What we need to know
When you contact us, these details help:
- The type of property
- Any access issues, like height or stairs
- Photos by email, if that is easy
- Roughly how big the job is
Want a quote for remedial sealant? Please ring 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us about the job. We will explain what we’d do and send you a clear quote before work begins.
How to look after the new joints
Looking after new joints is easy:
- Get the cause of a repeat leak found before resealing
- Have loose fittings fixed before resealing
- Check ceilings under showers for marks
- Keep bleach and abrasives off the bead
Watch the joint over the first few weeks, especially if movement was the problem. Should anything change, call 0345 464 0079 or email us.
Do not keep resealing the same joint. Get the cause found first, or the next bead will go the same way.
What the job involves on each surface
Mouldy bath & shower sealant
Mould can sit behind the silicone, not just in it. Once it’s all removed, the joint is treated so the new sealant starts clean.
Over-sealed & botched joints
A botched joint can hide two or three layers of sealant, including the smears and film on surrounding tiles. Only a clean joint will take a new bead.
DIY sealant or a professional job?
Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. Everything old must be removed first.
If you’re set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: remove every trace of old sealant, clean and dry the joint, and follow the product’s cure time. If it does not work out, we can still put it right.
Catmore homes and their sealant
Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.
In and around Catmore, as anywhere, good remedial sealant starts with a clean, dry, properly prepared joint. Homes close to Church of St Margaret include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.
