Remedial sealant & repairs in Bridgend, Argyll and Bute
Remedial sealant for Bridgend and the surrounding area: careful preparation, the right product and tidy work. Ask us for a quick quote.
- Sealant that came away because the surface wasn’t prepared
- Torn expansion joints
- Mould trapped under a layer of silicone
Why deal with it now?
Spraying mould remover on a sealed-over joint doesn’t reach what’s underneath. Removal is the only way to get at it. In a place like Bridgend, small leaks are easy to put off, but water through a failed joint keeps working away until it’s fixed.
Every job is a little different, so we quote each one individually. The number of joints, how easy they are to reach and the sealant needed all play a part, and we’ll explain the quote if you ask.

Remedial sealant for homes and businesses in Bridgend
A joint that keeps letting you down needs more than another bead. Send pictures when you send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk. If you’re dealing with thick, messy sealant smeared over tiles and mould trapped under a layer of silicone, we can put it right, on botched or over-sealed joints, shrunken worktop sealant and mouldy bath & shower sealant alike.
Being further from a city does not change the work: old material out, joints cleaned and dried, and a fresh, even finish. The journey and access are simply planned in advance.
Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, large or small.

DIY versus a professional finish
If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.
Not every job suits DIY: high-level joints, fire-rated gaps, external movement joints and big jobs need the right product, the right access and the right method.
How it works
The work is kept neat and contained to the area we’re working on, so you can carry on as normal. Expect the work to take a few hours, depending on how many layers have to come out, and we tell you how long to leave it before we go. In smaller Scottish places, parking is normally less of an issue than access and distance. Tell us how to find the property and how to reach the work, and the visit is planned around that.
- We protect the surfaces around the joint.
- The botched or failed sealant is cut away completely.
- We clean and degrease the joint and look for signs of movement or water.
- New sealant goes in once the joint is dry, and is tooled smooth.
- You get the cure time and our view on why the joint failed.
Preparing for the visit
- Tell us if parking is tricky
- Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks
- Try not to wet indoor joints just before the visit

Advice
What we can’t put right
New sealant can’t fix everything, and we’ll tell you before we start. It won’t solve:
- Water damage behind tiles that needs a tiler
- Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
- Movement from fittings that aren’t supported
Not sure which it is? You can drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we’ll tell you honestly.

Bridgend questions
Can you do remedial sealant in Bridgend?
Yes. We work across all of Scotland, and Bridgend is part of that. Just drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk with a few details of the job, and we’ll give you a clear quote.
Will you come out to Bridgend?
Yes. Bridgend is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our work covers the whole of Scotland. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
How long before the joint can be used?
Cure times vary by product. Before we leave, we will tell you the cure time.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Yes, always, and completely. New silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so the joint is cleaned back first.
Can I choose the sealant colour?
In most cases you can choose. We will tell you which colours the right product comes in and agree one before any work starts.
Can landlords and businesses book you?
Yes. As well as householders, we work for landlords, agents, businesses and hotels in Bridgend.
Are you ARBOMaster approved?
Yes. We are ARBOMaster approved, the scheme for applicators of Arbo sealants.
What if the leak isn’t the sealant?
We’ll tell you. A cracked tray, faulty valve or leaking waste needs a different trade, and we won’t reseal for the sake of it.
How to look after the new joints
To keep the joints looking good and working properly:
- Never seal over old silicone
- Use a soft cloth, not a scourer, on silicone
- Have loose fittings fixed before resealing
- Look for stains below bathrooms now and then
If the joint ever needs renewing, have it cut out, not sealed over. Over-sealing is how many remedial jobs start, so the old bead should always come out first.
If a joint has failed more than once, stop resealing it. Have someone find out why, otherwise the next attempt will fail too.
Surface by surface
Windows & doors
Some leaks around windows come from the wall or the window itself. We check the joint and tell you if it looks to be something else.
Over-sealed & botched joints
A thick bead smeared across tiles often hides mould or gaps. We strip it back so we can see the joint, and then we reseal it neatly.

Remedial sealant in Bridgend: local notes
Scotland’s water is generally soft, so sealant and grout see less limescale than in much of England. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out. Private landlords in Scotland must be registered and meet the Repairing Standard, which includes keeping fixtures and fittings in reasonable repair. Tired, leaking sealant is worth putting right before a new tenant moves in.
Around Bridgend, as everywhere, remedial sealant is only as good as the preparation behind it. In the older streets around Kilmichael Glassary Parish Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

What affects the cost of remedial sealant
You’ll get a clear quote before any work starts. It takes into account:
- How much old sealant there is and how hard it is to remove
- Which sealant suits the joint
- The number of rooms or windows
- How easy the joints are to reach
Homes and businesses are quoted the same way: the amount of work, the access and the products needed, along with when we can work on site. Ask us for a quote and we will go through it with you.
Asking for a quote
The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:
- Roughly how big the job is
- How we’d reach the joints
- If it’s domestic, commercial or a hotel
- Pictures of the joints, sent by email
We quote each job on its own, so start by telling us what you need. Just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details.
