How we handle remedial sealant in Aberargie

Removing failed sealant is the hardest part of the job. We cut out every layer, clear the residue and degrease the surfaces, without scratching tiles, trays or frames. New sealant only bonds to a clean, dry joint. If you have worktop sealant that has shrunk and split and a second bead peeling off the first, we can put it right, whatever the surface.

Bathrooms in smaller places like Aberargie work just as hard as those in the cities. Limescale is less of a problem with Scotland’s generally soft water, but mould still takes hold in damp sealant and grout.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you are not left on your own once the job is done.

What affects the quote in Aberargie

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We take into account:

  • Whether the work is at height
  • The amount of work
  • The product the joint needs
  • Working hours on commercial sites

No two jobs are quite the same, so each one gets its own quote. Size, access and the product the joint needs all make a difference.

Asking for a quote

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote. When you ask for a quote, tell us:

  • Any previous sealing or DIY work
  • A few pictures by email, if you can
  • What the problem is, such as mould, gaps, leaks or cracking
  • Where the job is, and your postcode

Every job is quoted individually, so the first step is telling us about yours. Just send an email to info@mrmastic.co.uk with the details.

When something else is needed

Sealant is not the answer to every problem, and we’d rather say so up front. Sealant won’t put right:

  • Movement from fittings that are not supported
  • Leaks from a shower valve, waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)
  • Cracks in the fitting rather than the joint

If in doubt, drop us a line at info@mrmastic.co.uk and we will say what we think before booking.

What we seal

  • Botched or over-sealed joints
  • Mouldy bath & shower sealant
  • Leaking tray & enclosure joints
  • Shrunken worktop sealant
  • Expansion joints
  • Failed movement joints

Keeping the joints in good condition

Joint life depends on how it’s used and looked after. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Run the fan after every shower
  • Don’t wait for a small gap to become a leak
  • Have loose fittings fixed before resealing
  • Look for stains below bathrooms now and then

Watch the joint over the first few weeks, particularly where the original failure was caused by movement. If anything changes, just email us at info@mrmastic.co.uk.

A failing joint rarely gets better on its own. Each use pushes more water behind the bead, into whatever is behind or below. Early action keeps it to a sealant job.

Different surfaces, different methods

Mouldy bath & shower sealant

Repeat mould usually points to a damp, poorly aired room. Along with resealing, we’ll mention if the room needs better ventilation.

Worktops & kitchens

If a worktop moves when you lean on it, the sealant will keep splitting. That needs refixing before resealing, and we’ll tell you if we find it.

DIY sealant or a professional job?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. New silicone will not bond to old, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

Overfilling a joint is a classic DIY mistake. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

How it works

When we get to you, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes a few hours for most joints, depending on how much old sealant has to come out. For a place like Aberargie, longer drives are planned in advance. Mention tracks, gates, ferries or anything else about the route.

  1. We look at how the sealant has failed and check for movement or a leak path.
  2. We strip the joint completely, removing any layers below.
  3. We clean the joint, treat any mould and let it dry.
  4. We use the right backing and sealant for any joint that moves.
  5. We tool the joint and tell you about anything else that needs attention.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us if parking is tricky
  • Clear the area around the work
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

Aberargie homes and their sealant

Aberargie is within about 3 miles of the coast. Scottish Water supplies are generally soft, so limescale is less of a problem than in hard-water areas. But mould still grows into sealant and grout in a room that does not dry out.

FAQs for Aberargie

Is Aberargie within the area you cover?

Yes, Aberargie is covered. Our work covers the whole of Scotland, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

What guarantee comes with remedial sealant in Aberargie?

All our work, in Aberargie and everywhere else, comes with a 12-month guarantee. We’re also fully insured and ARBOMaster approved.

How long should I leave it?

Many sealants skin over quickly but take longer to cure fully. We’ll give you the cure time for the product we used.

Should I try DIY first?

Sometimes. Preparation is everything: all the old sealant out, and a clean, dry joint. We can always put it right if it fails.

What do you need from me for a quote?

Tell us what needs doing and where, plus photos if you have them. We’ll ask anything else we need to know.

What does remedial sealant cost?

There’s no set price, as it depends on the job: how much there is, what’s there now, how we reach it and what it needs. We agree the price before any work begins.

Does someone need to be in?

If the work is inside, we need someone to let us in. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Do you hold any approvals?

Yes. We are an ARBOMaster approved applicator.

Why deal with it now?

Spraying mould remover on a sealed-over joint does not reach what’s underneath. The layers have to come out, and the joint treated and dried before resealing. In an older home around Aberargie, damp from a failed joint can get into timber and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the sealant.

Instead of a standard rate, we price the job in front of us: the amount of work, the old material and the access. The price is agreed before we begin.
