How we handle regrouting in Woodstock

A grout colour change can freshen a room without retiling. Light grout can go darker to hide marks, or the other way round. Just mention the colour you’d like when you ring 0345 464 0079 or email us. Common call-outs are for gaps where the shower grout has gone and cracked or crumbling grout lines, on shower walls, kitchen splashbacks and bathroom floors.

Even in a smaller place like Woodstock, bathrooms and kitchens see heavy daily use. Whether it’s a cottage bathroom or a newer en suite, the approach is the same: all the old material out, the joint cleaned and dried, then new sealant or grout.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

How the visit works

On the day, we look over the joints with you first. We protect the surfaces around the joints before work begins. The work generally takes anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. Parking around Woodstock is generally easier than in a town centre, but mention any lanes, gates or long drives. For outside work, side access and the height of the joints help us plan.

  1. First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
  2. We rake out the old grout to an even depth, taking care of the tile edges.
  3. Dust and debris are vacuumed out of every joint.
  4. We fill the joints with new grout, then clean the tiles.
  5. Corners and edges are resealed with flexible silicone, not grout.

Before we arrive

Should I try it myself first?

Sealing over old silicone is the commonest DIY error. Silicone does not stick to old silicone, so it peels away and traps moisture behind it. Everything old must be removed first.

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

Leave it or put it right?

Cracked grout lets water behind the tiles. Leave it, and the adhesive or the wall behind can suffer, which turns a regrout into a retile. Dealing with it now keeps it small. Around Woodstock, water from a failed joint in an older home can soak into timber and plaster, and that’s a much bigger job than renewing the sealant.

There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we’ll talk you through it.

Regrouting in Woodstock: local notes

Woodstock has hotels and guest accommodation nearby. Hotel bathrooms are part of our work as well as homes, and can be done room by room. Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

Homes close to Church of St Mary Magdalene include some older properties, and walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. Schools such as Woodstock Church of England Primary School are buildings too, and we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

Landlords, agents and businesses in Woodstock

Hotels need rooms back in use, so the work can be planned room by room around your bookings where we can. Hotel work is part of what we do, alongside homes and businesses.

We work for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners. Resealing between tenancies is a simple way to keep a property in good order.

Keeping the joints in good condition

How long the joints last depends on use and care. We suggest:

  • Keep an eye on the silicone along the edges
  • Rinse the tiles after showering
  • Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly

Before we leave, you’ll know when the shower can be used. Please follow it, and go gently on the grout at first.

Cracked grout doesn’t stay cracked for long. Water gets in behind and the tiles can start to loosen, so regrouting early can save a retile.

Signs you need regrouting in Woodstock

A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, and damp grout is where mould grows. When black spots keep returning, the mould has usually got into the grout.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Cracked or crumbling grout lines
  • Grout in a colour the owner wants to change
  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
  • Stained grout that cleaning will not shift

If you let a flat or house near Hanborough station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right.

Your questions about regrouting in Woodstock

Will you come out to Woodstock?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.

Do you take on hotel work around Woodstock?

Yes, we work for hotels as well as homes and businesses. A room-by-room programme keeps most rooms in use while the work goes on.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are often happy for the work to be arranged.

Does someone need to be in?

That depends on where the joints are. Inside work needs someone to give us access.

Can you regrout if a few tiles are loose?

Loose or hollow tiles are a sign of a problem behind them. Regrouting alone isn’t the answer and we’ll say so before going ahead.

Can you do several jobs on one visit?

Yes. Several rooms, windows or areas can go on one quote.

Do you reseal at the same time?

We generally do. New grout beside old sealant wouldn’t look right and wouldn’t keep water out.

Should I try DIY first?

Some simple jobs can be done by a careful DIYer. Most DIY failures come from sealing over old material, wet joints or too much sealant.

Honest limits

We will always be straight with you, so here’s what sealant can’t fix:

  • Tiles that have come away from the wall
  • Damaged tiles that need replacing
  • A leaking wet room membrane

If in doubt, ring 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll say what we think.
