Trusted regrouting in Whitesmith

Regrouting in Whitesmith, done properly

Regrouting suits shower walls, bathroom floors, kitchen splashbacks and wet rooms. It can be a full room, or just the area that has failed. Either way, tiled areas in Whitesmith are handled the same careful way. Common call-outs are for grout that makes sound tiles look old and grout that stays dark however much it’s cleaned, across bathroom floors, bathroom wall tiles and tiled floors.

Around Whitesmith, it’s houses and cottages rather than flats. The work is the same as anywhere: everything old comes out before the new sealant or grout goes in.

Why act early in Whitesmith

With regrouting, your tiles stay where they are. Retiling is a much bigger job: stripping, making good, new tiles and new grout, and often a few days without a shower. When the tiles are fine, it’s the sensible first step. Around Whitesmith, older homes often have timber in their floors and frames, and water through a failed joint can rot timber if it’s left.

What it costs depends on how much there is to do, how much old material has to come out and access to the work. You’ll have a clear quote before any work starts, so you know where you stand.

What regrouting looks like in Whitesmith

Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.

If you look after a building such as Chiddingly Primary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes. If you live in an older home near The Parish Church, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant. Letting a property close to Berwick (Sussex) station? Then a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.

How it works

Every visit runs the same way: we look at the joints together, mask and protect the surrounding surfaces, do the work and clear up. Most jobs take anything from a few hours to a full day, depending on the area. In a small place like Whitesmith, access is generally the main thing to plan. For outside work, also let us know about exposed walls and any outbuildings involved.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. We rake out the grout evenly, protecting the tile edges.
  3. We vacuum the joints so the new grout bonds.
  4. We regrout the joints and clean the tile faces.
  5. Silicone goes into the corners and along the edges.

Advice

Keeping the joints in good condition

Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Do not ignore a tile that feels loose
  • Use gentle cleaners on grout
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers
  • Wipe water off the walls when you’re done

Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it can harden properly. From then on, a quick rinse after showering helps and let the room air.

Grout that’s washing out of a shower shouldn’t be left. Each shower drives water into the open joints and it can end up in the wall or the ceiling below.

How the job changes by surface

Corners and edges

Internal corners move, so we seal them rather than grout them.

Kitchen splashbacks

The grout by the hob and sink takes most of the mess. We regroute and reseal the worktop joint.

Landlord and commercial work in Whitesmith

In hotels, rooms out of use cost money, so we plan the work room by room. We have worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

Mouldy or split sealant often shows up at the end of a tenancy, and it’s quick to put right between tenancies. We can quote for more than one property at once.

How we quote for regrouting

The quote reflects the job in front of us. We look at:

  • Any mould that needs treating
  • How easy the joints are to reach
  • Working hours on commercial sites
  • Which sealant suits the joint

There are no prices on our website, because the cost depends so much on the job itself. For a quick quote, please phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email.

What we need to know

To make quoting easier, please include:

  • Where the job is, and your postcode
  • What’s wrong with the joints now
  • How many joints, rooms or windows are involved
  • Whether it’s a home or a business

Asking for a quote is easy: let us know the job and the location and its rough size. A few photos by email make the job easier to understand, and we will come back to you with a quote.

Should I try it myself first?

Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A heavy bead looks messy and copes badly with movement, and the joint depth matters as much as the finish.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Common questions in Whitesmith

Do you work for landlords with property near Berwick (Sussex) station?

Yes, rental work is part of what we do. Just call 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and tell us about the property, and we’ll give you a clear quote.

Do you cover Whitesmith for regrouting?

Yes. We work across London and the South East, and Whitesmith is part of that. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a few details of the job.

Can you work on commercial sites?

Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do, as well as homes. Working times can be discussed when we quote.

How long should I wait before showering?

Before we leave, we’ll tell you how long to wait. Both the grout and the silicone need time to cure before the shower is used.

Do you reseal at the same time?

Yes, in most cases. Fresh grout next to old, mouldy silicone would look odd and wouldn’t keep water out.

What goes in the corners, grout or silicone?

We seal corners with silicone. They move slightly and grout can’t take that movement.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Mr Mastic is based in Crawley. We cover Whitesmith and the rest of East Sussex, along with the rest of our area.

Is regrouting a chance to pick a new grout colour?

Yes, regrouting is the time to do it. Tell us the colour you’d like when you ask for a quote.
