How we handle regrouting in Framfield

Across Framfield, we regrout tiled showers, bathrooms and kitchens. Out comes the old grout, the joints are cleaned and new grout goes in, finished with new silicone at the edges. We work on bathroom wall tiles, bathroom floors and kitchen splashbacks, and people most often call us about floor grout that won’t come clean and grout that’s cracking and breaking up.

For a small place like Framfield, regrouting is planned like any other job: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. In the bathroom or kitchen, the work is the same as in any town.

Your job is guaranteed for a year, as with all our work.

Bathrooms and kitchens in Framfield

Most of the South East has hard water, which leaves limescale on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

If you let a flat or house near Uckfield station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right. If you look after a building such as Framfield Church of England Primary School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s. If you live in an older home near St Thomas à Becket Church, timber floors under older bathrooms flex, so joints need a sealant that moves with them.

How the visit works

When we get to you, we check the joints match what you told us. If anything is different, we explain it before carrying on. After that, the work takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. Somewhere like Framfield needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. First, we check for loose or hollow tiles and point out any we find.
  2. Old grout is raked out to a consistent depth without chipping the tiles.
  3. We vacuum the joints and clean out the dust.
  4. New grout is worked into the joints and cleaned off the tile faces.
  5. We reseal the internal corners and edges with silicone.

How to prepare

  • Where the joints are inside, avoid wetting them before we arrive
  • Tell us about any water getting in
  • Plan for the work area to be out of bounds to pets and children

How to look after the new joints

So the new joints stay in good condition:

  • Get any tile that moves checked promptly
  • Clean with a soft brush, not anything metal
  • Clean grout with a mild bathroom cleaner
  • Rinse soap off the tiles after each shower

Give the new grout the time we tell you before using the shower, so it can harden properly. From then on, a quick rinse after showering helps and keep the room ventilated.

If grout in the shower is washing out, act soon. Each shower drives water into the open joints, and that water can reach the wall or the floor below.

When it isn’t the sealant

It helps to know what we cannot do:

  • A leaking shower valve or waste
  • Loose tiles, which need refixing first
  • A leaking wet room membrane

Not sure which it is? You can phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will tell you honestly.

What we seal

  • Kitchen splashbacks
  • Bathroom wall tiles
  • Tiled floors
  • Wet rooms
  • Bathroom floors
  • Shower walls

Surface by surface

Wet rooms

Wet rooms have water across the floor, so good grout is important. We check the tiles first.

Bathroom wall tiles

We can regroute all the walls in a bathroom, depending on size. It’s a good time to change the grout colour.

What happens if it’s left?

Patching a few joints can look like a quick win, but the patches often do not match, and the old grout keeps failing around them. Regrouting the whole area gives an even, lasting finish. In a small place like Framfield, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

Doing several joints on one visit usually makes better use of the time than several visits, so tell us about everything that needs sealing. We will send you a clear quote for the lot.

DIY versus a professional finish

A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, such as a straightforward joint indoors. Where it goes wrong is sealing over the old bead, working on a wet joint or overloading the gap.

If you do try it yourself, take your time over the preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still put it right.
