Regrouting in The Green
Our applicators work in The Green on raking out old, cracked or stained grout and regrouting tiled walls and floors. Old material cut out, joints cleaned and sealed neatly and every job guaranteed for a year.
- Gaps where the shower grout has gone
- Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
- Floor grout that has worn and darkened
Regrouting in The Green
We check the tiles before any grout comes out. Loose or hollow tiles are pointed out first, since new grout can’t fix a problem underneath. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting gives the area a new lease of life. If you have stained grout that cleaning won’t shift and kitchen splashback grout stained by grease, we can help, on bathroom wall tiles, wet rooms and bathroom floors alike.
Being in a small place like The Green makes no difference to the job itself: the journey and access are simply agreed in advance. Once we’re there, the bathroom or kitchen gets the same care as anywhere else.
All our work comes with our one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Essex.

Different surfaces, different methods
Shower walls
Shower walls are the most common area we regrout. Cracked or missing grout here lets water behind the tiles.
Bathroom floors
Cracked floor grout can point to movement underneath. We look for loose tiles first.
Questions from The Green
Is The Green within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. Our work covers London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Is The Green in your area for regrouting?
Yes. Our work covers London and the South East, and The Green is part of that. Just phone 0345 464 0079 or email us with a few details of the job.
Is it OK to seal over old sealant?
No, it will not last. It can look neat for a few weeks, but the new layer lifts away from the old one. The old sealant has to come out completely.
Do I have to be there?
That depends on where the joints are. For work indoors, someone needs to let us in, and for outside work we will agree access with you when we book.
Do you work for hotels and businesses?
Yes. Commercial and hotel work is a large part of what we do, as well as homes. We can talk about working times when we quote.
Do you take out the old sealant first?
Yes. All of the old material is cut out and the joint cleaned.
What do you need from me for a quote?
Just the basics: the address or postcode, what’s wrong and any access issues. Then ring 0345 464 0079 or email us.
How long should I wait before showering?
It varies with the products and the room. We will tell you exactly how long when the job is done.
What we’re called out for in The Green
Harsh cleaners and scrubbing wear grout away. Some bleaches and acid descalers break grout down with repeated use, until the joints are rough and low.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Grout that’s cracking and breaking up
- Floor grout that will not come clean
- Corners filled with grout instead of silicone
- Grout washed out of a shower
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Cressing Primary School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.

The Green homes and their sealant
Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings.
For landlords with property near Cressing station, stained grout drags a rental down, and regrouting between lets puts that right. In the older streets around St Barnabas, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first.

When it isn’t the sealant
We will not take on work that will not last, so here’s what sealant cannot put right:
- Damaged tiles that need replacing
- Waterproofing that has failed below the tiling
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
If you are not sure, just phone 0345 464 0079 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer.

The process
Once we are on site, we compare the joints with what we discussed. If we find something unexpected, we talk it through with you first. After that, the work takes a few hours for a shower enclosure, longer for a whole room. For a village or hamlet like The Green, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. Everything for the job comes with us, so a second trip is avoided where possible.
- We agree the area to be regrouted and point out any loose tiles.
- Grout is raked out without chipping the tiles.
- Dust is cleared from every joint.
- We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
- We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.
Getting ready for the visit
- Tell us about access, such as stairs, a lift or high-level joints
- Keep children and pets away from the work area
- Tell us about any water getting in

Advice
Why deal with it now?
If tiles are loose, regrouting alone is not the answer. We point that out first, so you can decide what to do. Where the tiles are sound, regrouting is far less disruptive than retiling. In a small place like The Green, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
Rather than a set price list, we look at what your job involves: the amount of work, the old material and the access. You will know the price before we begin.

How to look after the new joints
No joint lasts for ever, but care makes a real difference. Our tips:
- Rinse the tiles after showering
- Get any tile that moves checked promptly
- Don’t use strong acidic cleaners on grout
- Skip wire brushes and scourers
Keep an eye on the silicone in the corners. It’s the part that moves, so the sealant there will need renewing in time.
Cracked grout doesn’t stay cracked for long. Water gets behind the tiles, and they can begin to come away and early regrouting can avoid a much bigger job.

DIY sealant or a professional job?
The difference is mostly in the preparation and the product. Joints are cleaned back to sound surfaces and dried, and the sealant is chosen for how the joint moves and where it is.
If you’ve already had a go yourself, that’s fine. We remove it and do the joint properly, so tell us about it when you ask for a quote.
