  • Which sealant suits the joint
  • Whether there’s mould to deal with
  • Access and height

Regrouting in Stonegate

We work across Stonegate, regrouting bathrooms, showers and kitchens. The old grout is raked out, the joints cleaned and new grout laid, finished with new silicone at the edges. If you are dealing with good tiles let down by tired grout and grout that’s cracking and breaking up, we can put it right.

Somewhere as small as Stonegate, homes tend to be cottages, farmhouses or converted buildings, with some newer houses too. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.

A 12-month guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

What happens on the day

You don’t need to clear the whole room or building before we come, just the space around the work. Everything nearby is protected, and the job takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room for a typical job. Somewhere like Stonegate needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. We bring what the job needs, so it can be finished in one trip where possible.

  1. We check the tiles for any that are hollow or loose.
  2. The old grout is removed to an even depth.
  3. The joints are vacuumed clean.
  4. New grout is pressed into the joints and the tiles are cleaned.
  5. We finish with silicone in the moving joints.

How to prepare

  • Mention any sign-in or site rules at work premises
  • For indoor joints, keep the area dry beforehand if you can
  • Let us know if you’ve seen damp or leaks

Do you need regrouting in Stonegate?

Poor ventilation keeps grout damp, and damp grout is where mould grows. When black spots keep returning, the mould has normally got into the grout.

Any of these means the joints need attention:

  • Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
  • Stained grout that cleaning won’t shift
  • Good tiles let down by tired grout
  • Shower grout that has worn away

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Stonegate Church of England Primary School, we reseal washrooms and kitchens in schools and businesses as well as homes.

Your questions about regrouting in Stonegate

Do you cover smaller places like Stonegate?

Yes, we do. Our work covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Do you cover Stonegate for regrouting?

Yes, Stonegate is within the area we cover. We work across London and the South East. Just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email with a few details of the job.

Is it messy?

Very little: the area around the joints is protected first, and we tidy up before we go.

Where is Mr Mastic based?

Our base is in Crawley, West Sussex, and we cover South East England, London and all of Scotland.

Will there be a smell?

Sometimes, a little. It fades as the sealant cures.

Do you regrout part of a bathroom, like the shower?

We can. We’ll look at the rest of the room too and tell you if anything else needs attention.

Will the sealant be renewed as well as the grout?

Normally we do both. Grout and sealant do different jobs, so we renew both and include it in your quote.

Do you guarantee regrouting?

There’s a 12-month guarantee on every job, including regrouting.

Can I do it myself?

The biggest DIY mistake is sealing over old sealant. Silicone doesn’t stick to old silicone, so it lifts and traps water and mould underneath. All the old material has to come out first.

If you are set on DIY, put the effort into preparation: take out all the old sealant, make sure the joint is clean and dry, and give it the full cure time. If it fails, we can still redo it.

Different surfaces, different methods

Shower walls

Most regrouting jobs include a shower. Cracked or missing grout here lets water behind the tiles.

Corners and edges

Edges are resealed while we are there, so the whole area is finished together.

For landlords and businesses

We work for landlords and letting agents as well as householders. Sealant work between tenants is a simple way to keep a property in good order before the next move-in.

Hotels need rooms back in use, so we plan the work room by room around your bookings where we can. We have worked in hotels as well as homes and businesses.

Keeping the joints in good condition

To keep the joints looking good and working properly:

  • Have loose tiles looked at early
  • Check the corner silicone every few months
  • Skip wire brushes and scourers
  • Don’t use strong acidic cleaners on grout

If a tile starts to feel loose, get it looked at early. A loose tile cracks the grout around it and open a path for water.

Stains that will not clean are a sign the grout is breaking down. Regrouting at this stage is straightforward, before the joints open up.

What regrouting looks like in Stonegate

Most of the South East has hard water, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.

In the older streets around Church of St Peter, walls and floors in older homes can move, and sealant and grout show it first. For landlords with property near Stonegate station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant.
