Regrouting in Stocker's Head
We work across Stocker's Head, regrouting bathrooms, showers and kitchens. The old grout is raked out, the joints cleaned and new grout laid, and we finish by resealing the edges. We are often asked to deal with old grout in a dated colour and shower grout that has worn away, on kitchen splashbacks, wet rooms and shower walls.
In a village or hamlet like Stocker's Head, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses alongside a few newer houses. Movement in older walls and floors tends to show first as cracked grout or split sealant.
Each job carries a 12-month guarantee, whatever its size.

Different surfaces, different methods
Shower walls
A shower wall is soaked daily, so its grout takes the most punishment. It’s often the first place grout washes out.
Bathroom floors
Regrouting a floor brightens the whole room. The edges where floor meets wall or bath get silicone.
What we can’t put right
In fairness, some problems need a different trade:
- Tiles that are chipped or split
- Water coming from plumbing rather than grout
- A structure that flexes behind the tiles
If you’re not sure, just call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking.
What we seal
- Wet rooms
- Bathroom wall tiles
- Bathroom floors
- Shower walls
- Tiled floors
- Kitchen splashbacks
Keeping the joints in good condition
Looking after new joints is easy, and it makes a real difference:
- Wipe or squeegee the shower walls
- Get any tile that moves checked promptly
- Give the walls a quick rinse after use
- Check the corner silicone every few months
Wipe the tiles down after a shower keeps water off the grout. Ventilate the room well to help it dry out.
Cracked grout doesn’t stay cracked for long. Water gets in behind and the tiles can start to loosen, so regrouting early can save a retile.

Regrouting around Stocker's Head
Hard water is the norm across most of the South East, so limescale builds up on sealant, grout and fittings, and it has to be cleaned off before new sealant goes in.
If you let a flat or house near Charing station, a regrout while the flat is empty is quicker than working around a tenant. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Peter and St Paul, bathrooms in older houses have often been refitted more than once, with sealant laid over sealant.

When to call us in Stocker's Head
A bathroom that stays damp keeps the grout wet, and damp grout is where mould grows. When black spots keep returning, the mould has normally got into the grout.
Keep an eye out for any of the following:
- Grout stained black or orange that won’t clean
- Floor grout that has worn and darkened
- A grout colour that no longer suits the room
- Kitchen splashback grout stained by grease
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Charing Church of England Primary School, its toilets, changing areas and kitchens need their sealant renewed like any other building’s.
What your quote should include
- What guarantee comes with the work
- How the colour is chosen
- What preparation is included
- What the quote includes, VAT included or not
What happens on the day
Most of a good job is in the preparation, and we don’t rush it. Joints are cleaned back and dried before anything new goes in. All told, the work takes a few hours, or longer for a fully tiled room. In a small place like Stocker's Head, access is usually the main thing to plan. If the job is outside, mention outbuildings, exposed walls and how to reach them.
- First we agree what’s being done and flag any loose tiles.
- We remove the old grout carefully.
- The joints are cleaned out and vacuumed.
- We grout the joints and wipe the tiles clean.
- We renew the silicone at the corners and edges.
Getting ready for the visit
- On commercial sites, let us know about site rules
- Mention any parking rules near the property
- Move anything stored near the joints

Related advice
Should I try it myself first?
Too much sealant is as bad as too little. A thick, smeared bead looks untidy and does not move well, and getting the depth right matters as much as the look.
A careful DIYer can reseal a simple joint, like a short, easy-to-reach joint indoors. The common mistakes are sealing over old sealant, sealing a damp joint and using far too much.
Leave it or put it right?
New grout smeared over the old doesn’t bond well. It sits thinly on top and soon flakes away. Removing the old grout to an even depth lets the new grout key in properly. Where a wall is exposed, as many are in small places like Stocker's Head, wind-driven rain gets into any failed joint, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Leaving a failed joint normally makes the job bigger, not smaller. If you are not sure whether it needs doing, call 0345 464 0079 or drop us an email and we’ll give you an honest view and a quote.
